Riley's POV💫
I look in the mirror and sigh, a weak smile tugging at my lips. I run my fingers through my soft, waist length blonde hair. I've always loved it. It looks exactly like my mother's did. Did. The word rang in my head and tears welled in my eyes. I pushed them back and averted my eyes from my hair in the mirror to block the sadness. It can't be seen.
I pull my long hair onto the top of my head and secured the wig to my scalp. I adjust the black wig in the mirror and straighten out the shoulder-length false hair. I look at my flawless ivory skin and grab a makeup brush, adding a few freckles to my blank skin. I then stare at the bright blue eyes looking back at me in the mirror. I grab the brown color contacts and slip them in before adding on the large bulky glasses.
I travel to my closet and glance down at the small suitcase filled with my old clothes. Oh how I wish to throw on some shorts and a top. I shake off the idea and I grab a long dull dress off the hanger and slip it on to my small curvy body.
I look in the mirror and feel achieved. I look very unattractive. The dress is awkward on my body, and my face and features are unmatched and look oddly paired. Good. Now I won't be noticed.
I grab my bag and slip out of the small hut that I live in. I walk through the crowd of others going about their business. I try to shove my way through the crowd, but I was just disregarded.
I'm a werewolf. I'm also considered the runt of my pack. Everything about me is almost unheard of to other werewolves. Most female wolves are very pretty and well kept. So they meet their mate, they will hit it off. I, on the other hand, am not so pretty. With my wig on and my odd clothes, I want to be as far away from pretty as possible. I also have glasses, which is part of my disguise, they all believe that I have impaired vision which is extremely uncommon for werewolves because of heightened senses.
I play all of that, I play the part of the helpless little latent wolf. When in reality, I am more powerful then everyone in my small pack.
I used to be in a large pack, where I could be myself. I loved living in my pack, with my parents and siblings, I had tons of friends and I loved everyone there. But my life went spiraling down when I turned 16, and I shifted.
That's when we found out that I was a white wolf. White wolves are very powerful. They have powers that would be very useful to any pack. White wolves are extremely rare, it's like the limited edition toy, every pack wants one.
When my Alpha found out what I was, he used my powers to do things that didn't need to be done. My pack was even put at war because all of the other packs wanted me. I was even put up for sale when I refused to help my Alpha use my powers for unnecessary things. They treated me like an object that could just be bought and sold, so I left. I snuck out of the pack with the help of my mother.
I close my eyes and think back to that night.
My mother looks at me with soft eyes and places a gentle kiss on my forehead before grabbing the suitcase from behind her and handing it to me. I take it from her with tears in my eyes and she fakes a small smile.
"You need to get out of here as soon as possible. Run as far away as you can, but don't shift. There are things in that suitcase that will help you disguise yourself in human form. Put them on as soon as you reach free land. Find a small secluded pack and stay hidden. Don't trust anyone, baby girl, I love you." She says in a harsh whisper before hugging me tightly.
"Now go. The sooner you leave, the bigger lead you have on the warriors." She says softly before guiding me to the border of the pack.
She gives me a nod and I return it with a sad smile before sprinting away from the place I've grown up in. I begin to relive the memories in my mind as tears flow down my cheeks, which are soon whisked away by the wind blowing my face as I run.
