Malakai was here? Tony was frozen, it seemed that most of the guard was aware of this as a few more moved to Tony's position without order. Bella had Alice and Edward at her side keeping her backed into a wall so they couldn't be attacked from behind.

The room was pin-drop silent. The two human breaths were laboured with fear and a dash of exhaustion.

"Was that talk of turning my sweet Tony?" that sickening voice crooned, smooth as always.

"You have no business here mutt," Caius hissed, all Kings up on their feet now.

"Tut tut, it's almost as if the past taught you nothing," Malakai mocked, "You cannot touch me yet you have the balls to order me around."

Tony grimaced in Demirti's arms, the vampire looking slightly annoyed that he was the one holding the target. Malakai appeared in a burst of smokey black that clung to him as did the shadows below his feet. Edward had his lips in a tight line as did Alice.

"I can't read his mind past the smoke," Edward admitted, informing the room, "Neither can Alice."

"I'm not surprised," Aro dryly spoke, "He manages to evade even us."

The confession sent the room into an uncomfortable tension, Malakai looked overjoyed.

"You know we're only in this mess because none of you can let precious little Tony out of your grasp and the little bitch ruins his safety by wishing to remain human. I only want his blood and torment after all," Malakai grins, his eyes ablaze with joy.

Tony had choice words but found he couldn't say anything less hell broke loose and his and Bella's lives were toast. Carlisle looked like he was going to burst a blood vessel if he had them, he was far too tense and worried for likely not only Tony and his clan but the Volturi too.

"Well, I think my optimism works out," Tony wheezed out, a tense glance at Aro showed his joke was poorly received.

His original tactic of keeping both Bella and himself was not hinged on equality so much as false selfish gain - if the Cullens would protect them then they both would be the perfect bait for Malakai until Tony turned and therefore all the more reason to keep Bella human. Aro knew it was simply because he was a softy at heart and didn't want to see Bella turn so young. Tony had acted a lot more playful and teacher-like around Jane and Alec than anyone would admit but it was clear.

"Which one was supposed to be your mate?" the question hung in the air like a bad smell, Tony's expression changing completely.

"Tony," Aro warned, knowing of the... switch that the man contained.

Looking at the position of the room it was painfully clear, that Malakai was enjoying how deadly serious Tony had become and the game was set.

Kill the blonde beside Tony.
