Pov: You
Plot: You're host at your sister wedding, but as you can't stand weddings at all, your best friend Niko, comes in your help, but the day will take an unexpected turn.
"I'm so glad that you came!" you say, while hugging your best friend Niko.
"I couldn't leave you alone when needed!" he hugs you back.
"I still can't believe that you gave up a radio interview for me!" you say, entering the restaurant with him.
"I can't take it anymore with all those interviews and photoshoots, Joonas was impatient to go, so I gave him my place." Niko smiles you "I would do anything for you".
You've always hated weddings: the endless waits between courses, relatives always ready to ask a thousand questions and wild dances always end up getting you tired immediately and making you nervous. You usually use any excuse to avoid them: from sudden fever, to mandatory commitment, to business trips abroad, but this time you couldn't do it. Your mother would never have forgiven you if you had been absent at your sister's wedding. So here you found yourself trapped among porcelain plates, deafening music and old post-war stories. Fortunately, Niko, your best friend, has arrived to save you from that boring day.
"In 15 years I've never seen you so elegant!" you say, while watching Niko from head to toe. The boy wears a simple but cute white shirt, gold cufflinks on the cuffs, elegant trousers and matte shoes. He looks so beautiful you can't keep your eyes away from him.
"In case you forgot it, we're hosts at your sister wedding, and I couldn't dress as always... anyway you look cool too!"
You feel a weird vibration in that "cool" but you pretend nothing, maybe is the tiredness talking for you. The ceremony in the church was long and boring and the air breathed was too hot to be the beginning of July.
You and Niko reach the reception room quickly and take a seat at your table, where other 10 people sit: your aunts, uncles, and third grade cousins who haven't seen you in years. During lunch you're impressed by Niko's ability to interact and conversing with everyone. In all these years you had never seen him so loose relaxed in the presence of strangers.
You have been friends for 15 years since school, already then you were surprised by his sympathy and kindness as well as by his voice that was both powerful and angelic. The first time you heard him sing, you were convinced that he would be successful and certainly his talent would not be wasted. You always believed in him, almost more than in yourself and your dreams, you always admired the willpower that pushed him to get up always after every disappointment and the courage with which he always got involved. You admire him deeply with every cell in your body.
"How can you do it?" you suddenly ask him.
"Talking? Is easy! You just move your mouth and at the same time you get words out! You should try it too!"
"No I didn't mean this!" you choke a laugh "How do you carve out time for yourself and still be so full of energies after all the commitments you have to do now? I collapse after six hours in the office, I don't want to think how your life is like!"
"It's not so easy of course, but you just have to carve out time for what really makes you happy and for the people who really matter to you"
Your looks cross for a few seconds, between you there is a series of unspoken words, you can perceive them, but the fleetingness of the moment, prevents you from fully understand. There is something different about him today.
The thread of your thoughts is interrupted by the arrival of the seconds dishes and a sultry heat, while the sky beyond the windows has become darker and more threatening. You get lost to admire the clouds, while around you the toast of the newlyweds raises a funny buzz.
