Pov: Aleksi

"I heard you're leaving for Amsterdam soon..." says Niko, looking up from his uramaki plate, staring at me.

"Astrid and I are leaving on Friday" I answer, just before I bite my last tuna roll.

Every first Tuesday of the month, the boys and I get together to eat something together, this time we decided to let ourselves be tempted by a good Japanese sushi. This tradition has been going on for years now, even if we already spend a lot of time together for work it is nice to enjoy an hour of fun together, doing something that makes everyone agree: eat.

"Are you going there to see your in-laws?" Olli asks me.

I nod, moving my head and laughing.

"I don't want to be in your shoes..." he laughs too "See how it went the last time you met..."

"Please don't remind me of that day! It was the worst Christmas of my life!!" I get chills just thinking about it.

If I think about the worst days of my life so far, last year's Christmas is definitely in the top 3, and I think it will hardly be replaced by other events...

"How does she feel about going home after everything that's happened?" Niko asks me. He is the only one who knows the whole story, I told the others only the fun part.

"She's a bit nervous. She hasn't slept since two nights."

As we speak, Namiko, the waitress of the restaurant, brings us the rest of the dishes we ordered: 3 uramakis, 4 nigirizushi and 5 tempura. Tommi takes a plate of each, and places them in front of him.

"Someone's going to binge!" I laugh, looking at him, nibbling from all the three plates.

"Talking about binges..." Joonas gets in the conversation "...when will you and Astrid get married?"

I'm choking on mineral water.

"Okay, you don't want to talk about it anymore, but even try to drown yourself to avoid it, doesn't that seem a bit too much?"

Olli hits my back with the palm of his hand, three or four times, saving me from a painful end.

"So? When's the big day?" Joonas insists.

"Since when are you so eager for me to marry?" I try to evade his question "At this point I have to assume that when it happens you will give us the most expensive gift of all, considering how much you care"

"I just thought that you and Astrid have been together for a longer time, you'd be the first in the group to get married..."

"When we will decide, you will be the first one to know it!" I answer, annoyed.

"Can we stop talking about weddings and all this nonsense?" Joel gets into the conversation "You're giving me a migraine."

Thank God Joel stepped in, I don't want to talk about marriage anymore, after what happened.

Astrid and I met at school in Amsterdam, where she and her family moved from Belgium. At the time I was studying to become a DJ, while she attended the senior year of high school and dreamed of becoming a successful lawyer. We both used to have breakfast in the same bar, and that's where we met for the first time. Although Astrid had struck me from the beginning, I was too shy and reserved to get ahead with her. That year I spent all winter watching her from afar, in the hope of finding the courage to speak to her, but she was the one who took the first step... if spilling the cappuccino on someone can really be defined a "first step".
