Mysterious Power

Chapter 5

The next day, me and Liz walked over to Kevin. I made an excuse and left. Kevin held my arm and pulled me back. He said "I...I need to talk to u." I took my arm away, and nodded. But I didn't want to talk to him right away so I said "1st period." I left to go see my other friends.

We didn't talk to each other by our lockers, even though I had lots of questions to ask him. He knew that too. We go to English together in awkward silence. Just then, I noticed his eye color had changed...

The first thing I said "who are you?" He closes his eyes, thinking about it. After a long pause, he opens it. Mrs. McMurtry comes in then. He rips out a page from his notebook. After a few seconds, he passes it to me. I open it and see:

[You're not human. Neither am I. We both are half-blood with powers. What Tatiana and mr.smith said was all true. Your dad is alive, but your mom was killed. She didn't have the powers, but your dad was trying to save your mother. It all happened in the hospital. After you were born, your mom died, not because of you. But because she was killed.]

I didn't believe it. The words shocked me. I'm not human...does that mean I'm not normal? I look at Kevin. He looked like he was thinking about something. Maybe how I would react. I flip the paper over, and write:

[who killed my mother?]

He didn't pass the note back to me this time because Mrs. McMurtry left the room. He looked at the floor and said "the evil ones. I can't say the real name of the evil ones. Words have power."

I say "where is my dad?"

Kevin answers "he's in Hawaii, that's where people like...us are right now. He sent me to protect you. There are the evil ones trying to take your power away." He continued "They only want your power...You're the daughter of the highness."

I don't want to the daughter of the "highness." I just wanted my mom. My real mom. My mom who was killed because of my dad. I don't want the stupid power. They can take the power away from me!!!

Kevin says "if they take the power away from you, you die." What i just found out about him, he reads minds!
