Striding to the lunch table ahead of me, I sit down next to Becca. She knew the whole time something was up with Derek, but I never believed her.
When I realized she was right, I felt disgusting for not believing her. She was right the entire time, and I just ignored her. So, I made a decision to put some more effort in our friendship.
"I am still going out with him." I come out with while poking at my food, nervous for her answer.
"Why? After all he's done? Of course, I respect what you decided, but I still don't agree with it." She rambles.
"Yes. I think everyone deserves a second chance." I answer.
I have changed since I read his journal. I never really have Beatrice talking in my head anymore (which I am blessed with), I speak more openly, and use my brother's lessons every day throughout my life. They help me through difficult times, basically taking the roll that Beatrice used to play in my head.
"Well, if that's what you want. I mean, He might have changed. One time..." And she launches into one of her famous stories.

Sitting in the plush, purple chair in the counselors office, I ready myself for what is about to happen.
"How are you today?" He asks me. I have grown to become fairly annoyed with this question, since I always answer the same thing, different from my old self.
"Good." I answer.
"That's a splendid change!" Mr. Elke exclaims. I roll my eyes. "How is Beatrice today?"
"She doesn't seem to talk to me anymore." I respond. He looks throughly surprised and overjoyed by that.
"Well, that is wonderful. It looks like our sessions are working. You are on your way to being fully cured!" He claims.
It almost makes me snicker. He thinks that I changed because of his sessions! I haven't changed a bit from this, if anything, I have changed because of my brother.
"Yes." I answer and smile. I decide it's better to just take the bait than argue with this dummy.
"Well, that is admirable. I am very impressed with you today Ms. Smith. You may go." He dismisses me and ushers me out the door.
