"Hi Mom. Hello Dad." I greet my parents. I love them more than anything in the whole world.
"Are you ready for dinner today?" My dad asks me.
"No. I need to take a quick shower if it's okay with you." I answer. I probably smell spectacular!
I jump in the shower, and let the blazing water soak me from head to toe. It's heat burns my skin and creates a fog that surrounds the entire bathroom. I rest my head on the white tiled wall.
My mind starts to wander and I immediately start thinking about my friend Samantha. A while ago, I would have been worried about her. She didn't want to engage in conversation with me, so I basically just took that job off her hands.
Now, she seems different. She changed and I think she knows it. She talks to me and speaks more openly. Something happened, but I don't want to push it. So, I decided to just wait for her to tell me. No offense to her, but I am one of her few friends, so she has to tell me sometime. It's not like their are many others for her to speak about it too.
When I step out of the shower, clean and refreshed, I grab a towel to dry myself and look in the fog covered mirror. I see a girl that I instantly recognize, and I examine every feature on her face.
My hazel eyes. My dirty blonde hair (It has so much brown compared to the blonde it could probably be considered a extra light hazelnut brown). My hair is cut upper back length, so it falls below my shoulders. I see the square of my chin, and I look from side to side.
I slip a tee shirt and some jeans on and run downstairs barefoot. Since my mom and dad both work full time, our house is usually not the cleanest. We try our best to keep it clean, but it never quite reaches the standard of spotless.
Our home is filled with various browns, maroons, and greens. My mom makes an effort on the little extra time she has to change up the colors and redecorate a bit, however it only worked out for a couple of the rooms in our house.
"Dinners ready!" My mom calls from the kitchen and I shuffle towards the food to see what we have tonight. Most nights we go out to eat, but on Sunday's my mom cooks.
"Looks delicious!" I complement her and the food. My eyes feast at what we are about to eat: lobster, crab, shrimp, scallops, sugar snap peas, and asparagus purée. We don't eat seafood often, so I am especially excited to eat.
I sit down in our wood chairs and my mom sets a plate of food in front of me. I gobble everything down, but take my time on the scallops. They are my favorite seafood. Scallops have a natural sweetness in them, and it makes my mouth water every time I think about them.
When my parents and I finish dinner, I go up the spiral staircase to my room. I grab my phone, unplugging it and write a text to Sam:
Hey. Get dressed. You'll be at my house in 20 min.!😋
Sure enough, 20 minutes later, she comes to my house. We walk around the block and stop by her house. She is my neighbor, and that's how we became friends in the first place.
She comes out of her house with a journal and I can't help but think, what the..!
"We need to talk." Sam starts, and that's how it all began.
