"...Don't be sad ...Gil ...after all ...the ultimate goal of all life is death." It said weakly while cupping the man's cheeks who was clutching it so tightly as if his whole existence depended on it.
*Cough* *cough*
"Don't you... Don't you remember these words? ...this was one of his favourite lines after all."
And with a serene smile, it, whose beauty was projected after the divine harlot passed away.
Gilgamesh, the proud king of Uruk, looked like a shadow of his former self. In his arms, lying motionless and without life, was the body of his first and only friend.
His normally powerful frame, which was always filled with unparalleled strength, the strength that looked down upon the might of Gods, looked like it had aged a hundred years.
King of Heroes? A worthy title fitting for him, he had thought in the past ...but right now? more like a king of disappointment. Hardly a king at all.
The green-haired beauty who was created by those gods for him had been killed by them shortly after he and it had defeated the Bull of Heaven.
That arrogant Goddess Ishtar had not been satisfied with taking his dear brother's life, his brother who he had always revered, always cherished... she had also decided to take his only friend away from him.
How vile, how heinous, how wicked that goddess was. Gilgamesh swore if he ever met her, he would no doubt kill her.
He would have accepted if his dear friend perished in a battle but no! That arrogant Goddess used trickery to kill her. She plagued her and Enkidu submerged into sickness.
It was becoming too much for him... The loss of his brother then the loss of his one and only friend... Too much.
For the first time in his glorious life, he's lost. He doesn't know what should he do, who should he consult, only if his brother was here.
".... You seem troubled Gilgamesh."
And he found himself face to face with a familiar individual.
"...Brother?" Looking at his brother's spirit Gilgamesh asked uncertainty, unsure of his arrival here of all places.
"Don't let your emotions control you Gilgamesh, you may have lost us but you still have people living around you to care about, a kingdom built upon by our father's sweat and blood and its people to lead. What's done is done."
Gilgamesh hissed, "Even now you don't see their mistakes? Gods? How laughable maybe I should destroy their temples and preserve animals there! Or is that Goddess has smitten you so much so that you have lost your mind? Tell me, brother!"
The sky rumbled with lightning, letting Gilgamesh know that their conversation has been heard by those assholes above.
However, his brother smiled a sad smile and ruffled his hair, "Calm yourself, brother. No one can heal himself by wounding others and remember When there is anger there is always pain underneath, vengeance and anger are just two different words for pain"
Gilgamesh chuckled, "Even after your unjust death you still say these wise words of yours? Then tell me o' wise king of Uruk, what should I do? I want to teach those Gods a lesson, to teach them that humans are not the plaything that they can discard with their whims, that my life is my alone and not part of their grand scheme but..." Gilgamesh looked away, not willing to face his brother, "....I will always be their plaything... so long as I can feel the cold embrace of death."
His brother looked sympathetic, holding his shoulder, making him look at him, "Death is an inevitable force that comes for all, Gil. Even the gods, with their immortality, will inevitably meet it."
"Then I will beat it! I will cheat it! I will make it so that this body of mine will never fall. Not even the strength of the gods will be able to subjugate me." Gil growled, a bright fire being lit in his eyes as he proclaimed his goal. But his brother, for his part, looked more troubled than impressed.
"Gil... Cheating death isn't something one can do. For a time? It may be possible. However, you'd be foolish to believe that you could outrun it forever."
"I will do it. Watch me do it. I'll achieve immortality with my own hands." Gilgamesh hissed before holding out Enkidu's body to his brother. "Give my friend a proper burial here."
His brother remained silent. His expression wasn't readable, though he seemed to have accepted such an outcome. He took Enkidu's body gently into his hands and watched silently as Gilgamesh turned and walked away, but before he could go further away he heard his brother say, rather sternly, "... And Gilgamesh, please refrain yourself from speaking such things about Lady Ereshkigal.", only for Gilgamesh to snort in distaste and walk away.
"Even now you're still prideful." Gilgamesh heard his brother muttering quietly as he turned around and went his own way. "You never listen to anything I tell you anymore because of it."
He paused.
"Though it is ironic... I feel as if your pride is the only thing that teaches you better than I ever could."
....Were the last thing Gilgamesh heard.
___________
With a gasp, Gilgamesh's eyes shot open and he sat up in his bed...
"Tch..."
Slowly rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he swung his feet off the side of his glorious king-sized bed and slipped into his comfortable yellow slippers that were neatly organized on the side, for him.
He slept nude, just like usual. His bed was already made out of the highest quality materials, so why wouldn't he allow his body to enjoy maximum comfort by adding another layer of clothes?
Sleeping nude was the way to go.
"That same dream again..."
He grumbled to himself as he picked out a fresh set of clothes for him to wear, which included sleek black pants with a white shirt and a black vest thrown over it.
"Why is it that I'm seeing that dream again... I wonder?"
