Instead of staying to argue with Abuela, Mirabel ran off to Antonio's room. She was worried that if she didn't apologise now, he would never forgive her. "Antonio? You in here?" She called out. Antonio came out from behind a tree. He was holding the tiger toy that Mirabel had given him the day he got his gift. "Antonio I am so, so sorry. I never meant to scare you. I love you so much." Antonio stopped and stared at her for a minute and then ran up and hugged her. "I love you too." He whispered. Thank god. "Come on now, let's go get ready." Mirabel smiled.
Mirabel was about to leave her room after getting ready when she hesitated. She didn't know what her Abuela would say after their argument. But she knew one thing for sure, she wasn't going to be the first to apologise. There was no point. Abuela never listened to her when she did anyway. "Okay..I can do this." She said to herself before finally opening the door. But to her surprise, there was hundreds of people all gathered in the main hall. The party had already started. How did she not hear everyone coming in? "Hey Mira!" Camilo grinned. "Oh, Hey Camilo." She replied. "..Everything okay?" He asked. "Mhm..." She said, but she wasn't very convincing. "Mirabel..you promised not to hide things from me anymore." He was right. "I got into an argument with Abuela while you were out and now I'm worried she will never talk to me again." She told him. "Ah. Is that really such a bad thing?" He replied, laughing, but Mirabel just stared at him. "..sorry, wrong time. Well she's busy with guests right now so she probably won't even notice you." He said. "What's new." She answered, rolling her eyes. "Come on, let's go have some fun." Camilo took Mirabel's hand and dragged her downstairs.
Throughout the night, Mirabel kept seeing her Abuela but she wouldn't even make eye contact with Mirabel. Abuela didn't say anything during the party because she didn't want to cause a scene but it would be a different story afterwards, she was sure of it. One of the townsfolk spotted Mirabel and was shocked. "Hmm. Surprised you didn't ground her after the show she pulled off earlier." They told Abuela. "..how did you know about that?" Abuela asked, clearly angry. "I was coming to give you something for the party when I heard her yelling. What a brat." They spat. Mirabel and Camilo overheard the whole conversation. "...So it was pretty bad, huh?" Camilo said. "Yeah.." she replied. "What were you guys even arguing about?" He questioned. "Well I managed to mess up in two ways this time. I came home an hour late and I upset Antonio to the point he wouldn't even talk to me." She explained. "What? What happened with Antonio?" He asked. "Well...we were down at the river when I heard the voices again..it got to the point where they were unbearably loud so I shouted out, telling them to be quiet but of course that scared Antonio." She told him. "But it's okay now! I apologised to him and he thankfully forgave me." She added. "Damn..what do you think is causing the voices?" He asked. "About that, I asked them why they were still here earlier. They simply said the candle and then just..disappeared." She said. "Huh. That's not helpful." He replied. "Tell me about it."
An hour or so later, Abuela decided to move the party to Antonio's room, upon somebody's request. He has only had it for a few months so some people had never seen it before. "Woahhhh this is amazing!" Somebody called out. Everyone stood admiring the place for a minute before the party got into full swing once again. Abuela decided it was time for some entertainment so she got all the "special" Madrigal kids to come up and show off what they can do. Camilo shape shifted into various different people at the party, Antonio spoke to the animals in his room, Luisa balanced many heavy objects on just one finger, Isabella grew flowers to give to people and Dolores demonstrated her amazing hearing by getting people to whisper words to her from the other side of the room and she'd repeat them.
This went on for a while until eventually, Mirabel had had enough. She stormed off out the room into the main hall and sat on the stairs in tears. "Why am I not special like everyone else? Why can't I be loved too? Why do I have to be the shadow?" She said to herself. It may seem selfish, her leaving the room because she couldn't bare to see her siblings and cousins being praised while she was completely ignored, but she couldn't take it anymore. She just wanted to be able to make her family proud too. Instead, she's now known as the family disgrace. Everything was quiet for a minute or two until the silence was broken by the sound of cracking walls. "Huh?" When Mirabel looked up, she was stunned. Everything looked exactly like her dream. The walls were cracking, the apparitions were floating around, screeching, and the candle started to slowly burn out. "No, no, no, no, NO! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" She yelled. The voices in her head came back, louder than ever.
THIS IS YOUR FAULT MIRABEL
YOU COULD HAVE STOPPED THIS MIRABEL
THIS IS WHY YOU ARE THE FAMILY DISGRACE MIRABEL
YOU
ARE
WORTHLESS
"BE QUIET!" She screamed. Usually, Dolores would have heard Mirabel screaming but somehow, something was stopping her from doing so. She could still hear everyone at the party, but something was blocking her from Mirabel, meaning no one knew what was happening. So thank god she has an extremely observant cousin.
After he finished entertaining everyone, Camilo went to go look for Mirabel. But of course, she was nowhere to be found. "Mira?!" He called out, but it was so loud in Antonio's room that he could barely even hear himself. He asked around but nobody had seen her. Some people didn't even realise she was ever at the party. Typical. After failing to find her in Antonio's room, he decided to go check the main hall. Maybe she just got overwhelmed with everything and came out for a breather. But when he stepped out and saw his cousin on her knees, crying her eyes out, begging for them to "be quiet" and "leave her alone" his heart stopped.
"MIRA?!" He yelled, running downstairs as fast as his legs could take him. "MIRA WHATS GOING ON?!" He said, getting ready to kneel beside her. "What do you mean?! Can you not-" Mirabel started to speak but paused out of pure terror when she finally opened her eyes again. "T-That doesn't make sense! They were all just here! I can't have been imagining it!" She cried. "Who was just here?! Mira you're scaring me!" He replied. "The apparitions from my dream! And the house was falling apart too and the candle was going out and-" She tried to finish her sentence but the tears were overpowering her words.
Back in Antonio's room, Dolores froze for a second. "Dolores? What's wrong?" Abuela asked. She may not have been able to hear Mirabel's screams from earlier, but she could hear her cousin crying louder than ever before. "Mirabel.." She said. "What? What about her?" Abuela demanded. Dolores started walking out of the room and everyone slowly followed her, coming to a halt when they saw what she was trying to tell them about. "Mira look at me! Calm down! It's okay, I've got you!" Camilo said. "I can't do this anymore Camilo. I just can't." She said, still crying. And then she hugged her cousin tight while he noticed everyone looking down at them, and he gave his family a worried look. He didn't know what was happening to his cousin, and he was scared.
Chapter 4 should hopefully be out tomorrow or the day after! I know the ending of this part is a lot like the movie with the whole "Mirabel thinks the walls are cracking but it's all in her head" type idea but it won't end like that :) It is almost finished though, there's a big possibility that chapter 4 will be the last and longest chapter so get ready for that!
