He followed his sister out into the main hall to see Mirabel lying unconsciously on the ground and he got instant flashbacks to when they were just 5 years old, before any of them got their gifts. Mirabel had decided to climb up onto the roof to prove it was perfectly safe since Camilo refused to because he hated danger.
*flashback*
"Mirabel get down from there! You could get hurt!" He yelled. " Oh come on! Stop being so responsible all the time and live a little!" She called back. "Mira I'm serious!" He said with a stern face. Then Mirabel jumped about and pretended she was gonna fall. "MIRA STOP" He cried out. "Oh look I'm gonna fall!" She teased. But in that moment, a slate from the roof shifted, causing her to lose her footing and plummet 20ft to the ground, completely knocking her out. "MIRABEL!" It took her a whole 3 days to finally wake up. Those 3 days were the worst of Camilo's life.
*present day*
"Dolores get Julieta, NOW." He demanded, before kneeling down beside his cousin. "Hey Mira, I'm here. You're gonna be okay. Everything's gonna be okay. I promise." He said, softly, tears filling his eyes. "Camilo what happened?!" Camilo turned around to see Julieta, Agustín and Dolores rushing towards them. "I don't know! I think it has something to do with her visions!" He replied. "My baby girl, my sweet baby girl." Agustín whispered while running his hands through his daughters hair. "Can you heal her tía?!" He asked, desperately. "I wish I could, I really do, but I can't heal somebody who doesn't have any visible wounds." She explained. "What do we do then?!" He was panicking now. Just then, Dolores saw something out of the corner of her eye. "What's that on the wall?!" She yelled.
She won't wake up while the candle is still burning
Abuela heard all of the commotion and came running out of her room. "What on earth is going on?!" Nobody answered her. They were too busy thinking about what they had just seen on the wall. They knew what had to be done, but they were hesitant to do it. Camilo looked up at his aunt and uncle and they nodded. "Here goes nothing." He ran back up stairs, pushing past Abuela to get to the ledge the candle sits on. "Camilo Madrigal what do you think you're doing?!" She shouted. "Saving my cousin." And with that, he blew the candle out.
Camilo stayed with Mirabel all night, praying she'd wake up. And miraculously an hour later, she did. "Camilo?" She said, weakly. "Mira! Thank god you're awake! I was so worried! Are you okay?" He said, relieved. "Yeah, I'm..I'm fine..what happened?" - "It's a long story..and it ends with me blowing out the candle to save your life." - "You did WHAT?!" She yelled. "But- But what about your gifts?!" - "Having you in our lives is the best gift we could ask for, Mira. We don't need magical powers to be happy." He smiled. "I'm sure Abuela doesn't think that!" Just as she spoke, Abuela stepped into the room. Oh god. "Abuela I'm so sorry I never meant for anything of this to happen I just-" - "Mirabel calm down! It's okay!" She interrupted. "I- huh? It is?" Mirabel was more confused than ever. "I realise now that I've always been too hard on you Mirabel and for that I am truly sorry. I know my 5 second apology doesn't make up for the years of pain I've caused you but I swear to you, I'll do better." Abuela never expected what Mirabel did next. She thought Mirabel would be furious but instead, she hugged Abuela tight. "I love you Abuela." She whispered. "I love you too Mirabel Madrigal."
From that day on, Mirabel's life got ten times better than she ever imagined. The dreams, voices, and hallucinations stopped for good since there was nothing to power them and for that alone, she was extremely thankful. But best of all, her family finally noticed and embraced her. "Mirabel you coming to play?" Usually Antonio was the one asking but this time, it was Isabella. She finally realised Mirabel wasn't a bad sister at all, she was the cruel one. Now they have a very special bond. "Coming Isa!" She called. She sat down with everyone in the family. Her tía Pepa, tío Felix, Antonio, Dolores, her mom, dad, Luisa, Isabella, Abuela, and her all time favourite person, Camilo. For the first time in forever, Mirabel felt loved.
