Chantal Rae Byrne

I finally finished my third semester which really gave me a pain in the ass. College life was completely stressing. I'm surprised I even survived that hell hole but now its time for me to relax and enjoy my summer like what the rest of my friends are doing. After I freshened up this morning to start the day, I walked to the living room of my tiny apartment and oh how messy it was. I was so lazy to clean it up last night because I decided to sleep instead and now my OCD is attacking me so I cleaned my apartment. What a great way to start the day.

After cleaning up, I made breakfast for myself. I was having pancakes and bacon and slightly burned eggs. When I'm halfway through eating, my phone rang from the counter so I picked it up and answered,

"Horlow?" yes I was still chewing my food. "Rae?" the person from the other line said. I chewed faster and swallowed the food that was in my mouth before I spoke, "Hi mum, how are you?" "Good. I called to ask you that." my mother said, "But you already called me last night and I'm still perfectly fine here." I replied. "Well its hard to have a daughter living in an apartment alone far away from her mother and you don't have school anymore so I always check what're you up to." "Mum I'm 19. You should at least trust me." I slightly laughed because she's being paranoid again. She sighed before she spoke, "Fine then. I just miss you too much." "Aw I miss you too. I'll visit soon I promise." I said. "I'll look forward to that. So, what about your summer job? Have you found one?" she asked. "No, not yet. I'm still looking.", "Well good luck on that, honey. I know you'll find one. I've got to go now. Bye, stay safe! I love you.", "I love you too mum. Bye" then I hung up.

My mother just reminded me about the summer job thing. I badly need one so I can pay my rent this summer. I can't rely everything to my mum. She's a single parent raising her daughter and paying for her college alone since my dad left us when I was a young. And its also a good way for me to show her that I'm starting to be independent.

I finished my food and dressed up to go to my best friend's house. I walked my way over there because it was just a few blocks away. When I arrived, I knocked a few times before the door was opened. We greeted and hugged each other before I went inside. Bella has been my best friend since I moved here in Sydney. We met at a class on our first day of college and bam! we were inseparable. We know everything about each other. Fears, weaknesses, secrets, she even knows the story why my dad left us.

"Its a good thing you came. I had all things planned out for the day. We'll spend the day on pizza and Netflix and more food and-" "Bel", I cut her off slightly laughing. She's such a blabbermouth. "Don't tell me you don't want to." she threatened me. "Of course I want to!", "Then what's the problem?" she asked. "There's no problem. I just need your help in finding a summer job." I explained. "Oh right, the job. Duh I'll help you with it just relax and have fun with me first! Its freaking summer vacation. You have got to enjoy it. Don't be under pressure." she winked. I sighed, "Fine. You're probably right and Bel, don't you want a summer job too? It'll be fun if we work together yenno." "No matter how exciting that sounds, I think I'll pass. I'm too lazy for that but don't worry, I'll always visit you when you have one already." she assured me.

Yep that's Bella. She was the type of person who doesn't need to work hard for the things she want or need since her parents were wealthy, she have things easy to reach.

So I gave in and spent the day with her just like how she planned it and it was amazing. We rarely have these days since we're always busy because of our college life. Right now we still have time to find that freakin job.

I took a couple of newspaper and we directly went to the classified section to look. We both scanned so its easier for us. Bella kept telling me whatever she finds. "Delivery guy?" she suggested. "Isn't that for men?" "Right" Oh Bella. "Janitress?" "Too low", "Manager?" "Too high", "Daycare assistant?" "I hate little snotty kids", "Personal trainer?" "I don't work out", "Prostitute?" "Bella!", "Fine, fine. I'll stop. Well if you're being picky at jobs you won't find one sooner." she said. "Ugh I know, i know. I just don't want to regret it when I pushed myself to work at something I don't want." I explained to her. "Well then what do you want?" my best friend asked who's being tired of my pickiness. "Serving at a café would be nice." "Hm.." she muttered while scanning the newspaper she's holding. Her eyes widen a bit and pointed at something at the paper "Ah this one! Barista at the Costa Coffee.", "Let me see" I said as I took the paper from her. "Oh its that one across the street! Its near my apartment so I don't have to worry about transportation. Its perfect! I have to go there immediately!" I exclaimed as I stood up. "Rae, wait! Its nearly 11 pm, they are probably closing soon." Bella reminded me and I checked my phone to see the time and it was 10:52. We were so busy searching that I didn't notice the time. I sat down again and breathed heavily.

"I guess I'll go there tomorrow morning." I told Bella. "Yep and at least you found one. That might be it! I'm so excited for you." She smiled at me and I returned a smile too. I hugged her, "Thank you for helping me, Bel!", "No worries. I love you to death yenno.", "So am I" we shared a couple of laughs before I said good bye to her because I needed to go home. I walked on the way home thinking about what will happen tomorrow. Hopefully I get this job or else I'll have to find a proper one again.

I arrived at my apartment, stripped down my clothes and took a shower before I went to sleep.
