ACE | Chapter Six
Her fate had practically been sealed right there. She was a failure and she always will be. It might've been more than just a test for her, more a chance to prove herself, to show people she's more than just her past. But she had screwed up that oppurtunity and felt as though she should be locked up.
It was quite sad really. She fractured her arm and possibly ripped a hamstring, she could barely hear out of her right ear so that was also something. She found herself sitting on the sidewalk, waiting for her ride back home. With an arm sling and giant dark cloud over her. She had her water bottle in her left hand, staring down at what was left of her backpack.
'I'm sorry, mom, you were right, I'll never make it anywhere without you, I really thought I could do this...'
"Now Jaku, after you get onto this plane it is all up to you. Je ne peux pas vous aider apres cela. Je compte sur vous." {I can't help you after this. I'm counting on you.} She stared into her mothers bright yellow eyes. Only two words could describe her eyes, wide and dangerous. The definition of terror and probably the scariest thing the girls ever saw.
"Oui maman, mais que se passe-t-il si--" {Yes mom but what if--} "Ne vous inquietez pas, tout ira bien. Depreche-toi maintentant." {Don't worry, you'll be fine. Now hurry.} Not even a kiss goodbye. She turned the girl around and pushed her forward, where a tall man with short black hair awaited her with a creepy smile and his hand out. Not just creepy, terrifying. The girl nearly fell to her knees as wobbly as they were.
"Come on, I don't bite."
Whatever that meant.
Jaku snapped out of her thoughts, she broke into tears again, squeezing her water bottle until it burst all over her and the ground. She dropped it then wiped her tears on her very wet sleeve. God, she was a gigantic mess right now. She was falling apart at the hands of...well, the main cause of her sadness.
Jaku could sob for hours if she needed to.
*Two Weeks Later*
"Come on JJ! You can punch harder than that!" Present Mic, the hypeman everyone needs. Although Jakushitsu was not as thrilled and hasn't been as content these past two weeks. And that realllyyyyy pissed Mic off.
Jaku went for another hit but he grabbed her arm and threw her over his shoulder. Her body made a loud thump as she hit the ground. She could've cried right then and there but Yamada's words stopped her. "You've been off your game ever since you failed the test! And you know what, I'm tired of it! Are you really gonna let this knock you off course?! Do you think the earth stops spinning when a metorite hits it?!"
"No, because things break when they enter earths atmosphere--" he then hit Jaku on the head with some folded paper. "You know what I meant! Why would you let something like this mess with you so badly?" Jaku stood up and adjusted her hoodie. She narrowed her eyes, looking as if she was extremely bothered by that question. Then she did that thing again, where her presence seemed to disappear. Present Mic felt it, and he didn't like it.
"I don't know, it-it just feels like I've failed everyone..." She said ever so quietly. "Failed?" He scoffed. "You think you failed us?! You only fail when you quit, and right now, it seems like your quittig. Jaku, your not quitting, are you?" She looked up at him, raising his eyebrow.
"No."
"Say it in french!" She raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Say your not giving up in french! And promise me!" He held out his pinky with a beaming smile, Jaku couldn't help but slightly smile as well.
"Non, je n'abandonne pas." {No, I'm not giving up.} And she pinky promised him, with her index. "You're supposed to do it with your pinky."
"Oh," Pinky promise! "Alright!! You should probably take off that hoodie, this is gonna be a long day." Jaku's wardrobe consisted of hoodies bigger than her, jackets, random shirts and jeans. That was about it. "Eh, it's fine."
"Aren't you gonna be hot?" Jaku shook her head. "No it's...fine." She cracked her knuckles and started re-wrapping her bandaged on her hand. "JJ, if this is about your scars you don't-"
"It's not about my scars!" She cleared her throat, acknowledging that she just raised her voice, which she rarely ever does in an angry manner. "I just don't want to, can we start now?"
"...Sure thing."
*After Hour's Of Training!*
It was about that time, Jaku had just gotten out the shower. Everytime she got out the shower she couldn't help but stare at her body, mainly her chest and arms. Not because she was self-absorbed or anything, quite the opposite when it came to her body.
'At least the burns are sort of fading.' She thought as she traced the one on her thigh, it wasn't as bad as it first was. Then her hand went to the ones on her chest, the ones that she thought might never ever fade, and while they're fading, the mental scars are a different story.
She went to her room and hoped to be asleep before Aizawa got home since it was break for him too. Though she found an envelope on her bed, light brown parchment sealed with red wax.
She picked it up and examined it. Was it possible it was a bomb?! Or worse?! Jaku was a bit of a pessimist sometimes. But something told her to just open it, and she followed that...obvious gut feeling.
Inside wasn't a letter like she expected it to be. It was some type of small, circular device.
"Jaku, are you home?" Shouta called out, Jaku tossed the device on her bed. "Oui, sois la!" {Yes, be there!} She was about to head to her closet when the device seemed to light up. She stopped and looked at it as some sort light was coming out of it. But if she's not mistaken, this is what they call a 'hologram'.
And on this hologram, showed three people, Aizawa, Principal Nezu, then she had no idea who the skeleton with the blonde hair was. It was quite cool, maybe she'll stay and watch. "Hello Jakushitsu, it's principal Nezu, nice to meet you again. Now as you know, you failed the first phase of the redemption test," She frowned upon remembering it. It was a rejection letter, that was disappointing.
"Along with ten others, no one passed." That was a surprise, it then started showing clips of everyones fails, sadly. Jaku's was first, a closeup of the moment she slammed into the concrete as the gate closed and the horror on the others faces. Then, surprisingly, the second was Xavi's, in phase three it seemed taken in a destoryed city and he had failed to save someone stuck under a building after the building collasped on him too.
After the clips were over, it switched back but it was just Shouta and the blonde skeleton now. "While no one passed the practical test, two were accepted. And you, Jakushitsu, are one of that two."
Oh dear, she was not expecting that! But how and why?! She could ask a million questions right now but she should focus on keeping her towel tightened.
"We were looking for more than just skill, and while points weren't an addition, we did happen to spot how you made the quick decison to go back and save another contestant in that situation. So don't fear, while you failed the test you still managed to pass. Of course, now this means you just have the entrance exam left. Good luck."
Jaku nearly shrieked, she was just left standing there, trying to take it in. She...passed?!
{Psst! Entrance exam arc will be skipped!}
