After what had happened with Akos, Callen felt unsure about leaving Hetty alone. He showed up at her house that night, and she was still awake.
'Sigh. Yes, Mr. Callen?' Hetty asked, sounding exhausted and a bit annoyed.
'Just checking in on you. May I come in?' He asked.
He was allowed in.
'Let me guess, you're going to ask to sleep over because you're concerned about my safety, and you won't leave even if I say no?'
'Yes?'
'Mmm. I figured. You've done it before. And despite the fact that it slightly annoys me because I can take care of myself, I like it. It's nice to know someone cares about me. And I'm glad it's you.' Hetty said, sweetly.
'You're welcome Hetty.'
'The guest room is cleaned up. I know you would prefer the couch, or the chair next to my bed, but I would feel better if you would sleep in there.'
Next morning, after a disturbing dream that left her feeling sad, Hetty woke up. And found Callen in the chair next to her bed.
She thought about being annoyed at him for ignoring her, but, she thought about yesterday, and what he had said to her.
She smiled sadly, and felt grateful that she didn't wake up alone after going through another terrible experience.
