Potions was my worst class. Unfortunately, this is where I was now sitting, listening to Snape blab on about some potion called "Amortentia" or something. I don't know, I wasn't really listening. Maybe this is why I'm so bad in this class, or maybe it's Snape's depressing daily mood.

I was looking out of the window beside me, the dull, wet grounds of Hogwarts staring back. I was sitting alone, I usually sat alone, none of my friends have ever been in Potions with me. I heard the door open, but I kept my eyes glued to the grey crying sky.

"Mr. Riddle. Delightful you could join us today," I heard Snape say in his usual monotonous voice. Whoever this Riddle kid is didn't say anything back, but I heard a seat next to me slide back, someone place themselves in it, then a few objects drop onto the table. This drew my attention away from the window, of course, seeing as no one had ever sat next to me in Potions before, and I pulled my gaze from the grounds to the person now sitting beside me.

My eyes widened.

It was him. It was the dark-haired, scar-faced, staring boy I kept seeing in the Great Hall. Wow, he looks nicer up close. His side profile is so- stop. No. You know nothing of this boy except that he's a Riddle. A Riddle! That's kinda sick though- "Parker!" I heard Snape hiss, pulling me away from my thoughts. "Sorry," I forced an apologetic tone, "yes?"

"Please come up to the Amortentia and tell us what you smell," he said, his face neutral as always, "Whenever you decide to participate, of course." He raised an eyebrow, as if daring me to stay seated, so I stood from my seat and walked to the front of the classroom where Snape and the Amortentia stood side-by-side.

"Go on," he said, "tell us what you smell." A question popped into my head at this moment. I wish I was listening now, this was going to be embarrassing, but I had to ask first. I'm curious. "Uh," I said in almost a whisper to the impatient Professor, "what is Amortentia again?" I felt as though hot water was spraying my body. I started sweating a bit, this was super embarrassing for me to ask a question as stupid as this one in class. I usually didn't talk at all.

He didn't lecture me at all or even show any sign of annoyance. Snape only replied with, "Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It does not create actual love, but a strong infatuation or obsession from the drinker. It is different to each person, but it is rumoured to smell of the thing you most desire." I only nodded before leaning over the cauldron in which the Amortentia was steaming from and taking a deep inhale through my nose. My eyebrows furrowed.

"I smell...books, and...cigarette smoke...and...blood?" I said, almost questioning the scents. My head tilted slightly as I walked back to my seat next to the Riddle boy, thoughts flooding my mind. Who is that? I sat at my chair, once again gazing out of the window, a contemplative expression across my face. I didn't even hear what Snape proceeded with going on about. It was probably homework for tonight, and I knew I would regret not listening, but I didn't care. Someone that smokes? I guess I'll keep a lookout. I am so telling Blaise about this at lunch. Then I felt a small nudge on my arm, and saw then a folded up piece of parchment slide in front of me which I assumed was a note. I glanced at the Riddle boy for confirmation and he only nodded his head toward the note before I turned back to look at it.
