I sat in front the day care for a while longer just watching him walk into the main doors. I made sure he made it safely. That kid deserved a dad, a good dad. I was partly hoping that was me and partly hoping it wasn't.

Yesterday Trav promised to have 'celebratory' drinks waiting for me after dropping off the test. He said he knew the test would be negative so we'd celebrate early. I wouldn't turn down a drink right now.

Trav met me at the door with a shot. I wanted to drink but he was tryna get me fucked up. Which wasn't the plan.

I took it and after 3 shots we slowed down.

"You found anything?"
I nodded at Trav. He shook his head

I sighed. I wanted to see her bad.

"August."
Moms called from her bedroom. Trav lived back home since he got out.

"Yeah?"

"Is what your brother said true?"
I looked back at Trav then back

"What'd he say?"

"I know about Grant but Jayda. Why is he looking for her?"

"Ma."
I ran my hand over my face. This is not what I came here to talk about.

"Give me her number."
After thinking about it for a second it wasn't a bad idea.

"Can you see where she is? I ain't seen her in days."
I handed her my mom allowing her to take the number down. She nodded then shooed me away.

Jayda
I hesitated answering this unknown number but I was hoping it was him anyway so I answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey Jayda. It's August's mother."

"Hey, how are you?"

"I should be asking you that. How's the baby?"
She laughed a bit and I smiled

"He's good. Moving a lot and giving me back pain."
I laughed

"August was a kicker till they pulled him out. He kicked from the time God gave him legs."
We both shared a laugh
"I haven't seen you for a while."

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Life's been kicking my tail lately."

"August would like to see you too."
I took in a sharp breath. I didn't want to cry.

"Aww baby, it's okay. Couples go through things, it's normal to fight here and there."

After a while Moms came into the living room and sat next to me. She showed that she was on the phone with Jayda so we muted the TV.

I could hear her crying.

"I love you Jayda."
The phone went silent
"Don't hang up. Meet me tomorrow for lunch at YardHouse 1pm."

After a short while the call disconnected. I rested my head in my hands as a nigga got emotional. Moms pulled me into her. I felt like a kid but I needed the hug.

I was going to pick up the results tomorrow and share them with her at lunch. Hopefully things get better afterwards.

"August. She isn't gone, she's hurting just like you are."

"Ma. I can't lose her...not over this. I ain't tell her from jump but I'm just tryna do right."

"I guarantee she'll be there tomorrow."

Trav passed me another shot after moms went back into her room. His way of being sentimental.

"Nigga, she gone be there."
