"hold on a minute, did you say ophelia ambrose? from beauxbaton? are you sure?" cedric's thoughts were racing through his mind. he thought about ophelia. he was excited she was at hogwarts, yet was left hurt and confused as to why she didn't tell him. they had been friends all these years. did i do something wrong? he thought.
"blimey diggory calm down," alastair said leaning in towards cedric slightly, "do you know her or something?" cedric thought about this question. he wasn't sure whether to tell the truth or not. would it matter if i did? he thought. he could see bruno's eyes growing smaller and turning towards the ground. he knew that if bruno knew that he had been friends with ophelia all these years, he wouldn't stand a chance. though, that sounded alright with cedric.
"name just sounds familiar is all," cedric said, scratching the back of his head, "excuse me i will be back." he stood from his seat and slid the compartment door open. he stepped out into the corridor and peeked into each window, trying to find the girl. he must have looked into five compartments before seeing her. she sat in there with about three other girls. ravenclaws in his year. she looked awkward. she always did around new people. cedric knew that. her brown curls were laid perfectly down her back. the sun shone through the window making her brown skin glow. he could stand there and stare at her forever. his hand went towards the sliding doors handle and he peeked his head in.
"sorry to interrupt ladies, but may i borrow miss ambrose? it's rather important." he looked at ophelia in the eyes and smirked. she looked surprised to see cedric, even though she knew he was going to hogwarts as well. she got up from her seat and walked into the corridor with cedric. as soon as she stepped out, he pulled her hand a little bit aggressively. he pulled her down the trains corridor before finding an empty compartment. he shut the door behind them and looked at her in the face.
"what the fuck lia? we have been friends all this time and you didn't even tell me my best friend was coming to hogwarts with me? no letter? how long have you known?" cedric's voice, though harsh, had a calmness to it. ophelia took a deep breath. she had never seen him this upset.
"i'm sorry ced. i really am. i wanted to tell you i did but time got away from me. with the transfer and packing and hogwarts with its extreme school supply list. i mean i never had to get my own telescope for beauxbaton!" he gave a small laugh at that. he licked his lips and pulled them back with a smile. he had his hands in his pockets and leaned against the door.
"i suppose it's alright," he said, pulling her in for a hug, "i'm just glad you're here," he whispered into her shoulder before pulling away, "i'm just not glad you already met bruno. thinks you're pretty." ophelia's cheeks turned red at the thought of someone, especially a boy, thinking she was pretty. she was about to open her mouth to speak, but suddenly the train stopped. cedric turned around and opened the compartment door to see what was happening. other students were looking as well. cedric closed the door and locked it. he took a seat and motioned for ophelia to take one as well. slowly but surely, the lights went out in each compartment on the train. when the lights died in their compartment, ophelia jumped causing her to grab cedric's hand. they both looked down at it and ophelia's eyes got big. she pulled her hand away slowly.
"sorry, just startled," she gave a small grin before frowning again, "cedric, is it getting rather cold to you? and when did it get so dark? cedric im scared." he wrapped his arm around her body and held her close. both were trembling with fear and coldness.
"don't worry lia, i'm here. everything will be okay i promise." his words rang through her head. she felt safer. suddenly, shadows began to appear in the corridors. they slowly moved through the train, checking each compartment. finally, cedric and ophelia saw it. a black cloaked figure that floated through the air. as it got closer to their compartment, the pair felt like all the happiness had gone from the world. they filled the train with misery and despair. the two students felt a sense of relief when the cloaked creature moved past them onto the next. cedric held ophelia close to him for as long as the sky was dark and air was cold. ophelia could feel him breath. his chest would inflate with air only for him to deflate it again
moments after. his heart was beating at a fast pace that she could hear. it was music to her ears. she wanted to stay like that forever. cedric's chin was rested on her head. he felt good when he knew he was protecting ophelia. he only wished that he could stay like that forever.suddenly, the lights switched back on and the train began chugging again. neither one of them knew what had happened but they were still propped against each other. cedric was the first to move, looking down at ophelia.
"are you okay ambrose?" she pulled away from him and sighed. she knew she needed to go back to her new friends. she didn't want to bother cedric anymore.
"yes i am alright. thank you for being here with me. i was so scared. what even was that thing?" she shivered even thinking about the creature.
"i am not sure but i have a hunch. all i know is that im glad it's gone." they both giggled nervously and heading for the door.
"see you when we get to the school...little lia." cedric said with a smirk. ophelia scoffed at him and grew annoyed with the use of the embarrassing nickname her father gave her.
"see you later...ceddy." she smiled and turned around to walk to her compartment. the new girl that she met peeked her head out to look for her. ophelia remembered her name. cho chang. ravenclaw. she was kind and invited her to sit with her friends whenever she'd like. it was like she already had a nice friend group. she reached the door and walked in but in the corner of her eye she could still see him. a smirking cedric diggory watching her every move. cedric turned around once she was in her compartment safely.
"i just hope i can keep tobias's promise." he mumbled to
himself as he turned the knob to his own compartment where his friends sat.
