hufflepuffs sitting at their respective tables roared with cheers. ophelia's cheeks were now stained red. she had never seen people so excited to see her. the smile on her face stretched as far as it could go, showing her slightly crooked teeth. she glanced at cho and marietta. they were clapping and smiling at her, proudly. she waved and continued to walk down the hufflepuff row, eyes now glued to the ground. she looked up once she saw an empty space for her to sit. she was looking for cedric but he was with his friends. there was barely room for her so she thought to sit else where. she needed new friends in her house anyway. she sat down at a mainly empty table in the row. when she looked up, she saw a girl reading a book. she wore black club style glasses over her brown eyes. her skin was very pale which contrasted from her long, black hair. she shifted her eyes from the words on her book to ophelia. the girls eyes grew as did ophelia's.
"great godric im so sorry for being rude," she said loudly, "my name is eleanor. eleanor cram. fifth year." the girl stuck her pale hand out for ophelia to shake. her hand was cold and dry. she took a firm grip on ophelia's hand causing her to wince from the small bit of pain. eleanor retracted her hand and waiting for ophelia to speak.
"i'm ophelia ambrose. fifth year. transferred from beauxbaton." eleanor gasped loudly at this suprise.
"oh shit! you're my new roommate," she said excitedly, slapping her book down on the table, "i've been needing a friend. i bet you're far better then the other slags here. pardon my language but there are far from many decent people." eleanor let out a giggle picking her book up again. ophelia furrowed her eyebrows, curious to know more about the people at hogwarts. she was going to open her mouth to speak when a great feast suddenly popped up in front of her. eleanor started to take food of the platters, not taking her eyes off her book. ophelia started to plate food in front of her when she finally got the courage to ask.
"hey eleanor," ophelia started. eleanor looked up from her book, "who is that boy right over there?" ophelia slightly gestured to cedric who was only a little bit away from them. obviously she knew who he was, however, she wanted to hear what someone who only knows him at school thinks of him.
"diggory? yeah he's a good lad. he's gone a bit rigid though. wouldn't bother with him. he won't date a single girl in this school. girls try yet he always has the same excuse not to date them. pretty shitty if you ask me. why? already fancy him?" she chuckled. for the hundredth time that day, ophelia's face grew red.
"no! i was just wondering. sorry, what excuse does he always use to not date anyone?" she questioned trying not to sound suspicious.
"something about not wanting a relationship because he's got someone back home. load of shit if you ask me. don't know why he can't just be honest." eleanor shoved a bite of the bread roll that was in her hands to her mouth. ophelia gulped after eleanor told her this. "why would he say that? he has never told me of anyone back home." she sat clueless in her thoughts when she caught a sight of bruno. instantly, she turned back to her roommate to ask her another question.
"hey cram," she started to say, "what about diggory's friends. how are they?" she gestured to the long haired brunette boy and the blonde boy sitting across from cedric.
"alright well the blonde is alastair bellchant. only cares about two things: quidditch and partying," ophelia nodded her head and pressed her lips in a straight line waiting for eleanor to continue, "and the other one is bruno gallagher. book smart but on his own, a right foul git. ruins every relationship he's in. he's a bloody player. will tell you he wants to be with you then dump your ass the next day. if you truly care about yourself, stay away from him." eleanor picked her book back up and began reading again. ophelia looked across the table and suddenly made eye contact with cedric, who was already looking back at her. they smiled at each other and cedric looked away to continue the conversation he was having before. ophelia couldn't take her eyes off of him. she sighed longingly and turned her head back to face eleanor.

"oh for fucks sake!" eleanor shouted down the corridor. she turned around to see who it was. "i swear to godric, gallagher, step on the backs of my shoes again and it might as well be the last thing you bloody do!" the vein in eleanor's neck was now visible through her pale skin. anger shot through her eyes. the yelling caught ophelia's attention and she looked back and forth from eleanor, who was adjusting her shoe back in place, and bruno."watch what you say to me, cram. might just cut off your dick supply for the next month." he chuckled like he was proud of himself. eleanor's face was red with anger and she took a step back to gain some momentum. she clutched her fist and punched bruno in the shoulder. he fell backwards onto his friends who arrived just in time.
"getting yourself into trouble again gallagher?" alastair's voice had a hint of disappointment, but from the sound of it it seemed as if this happens a lot. ophelia stood next to eleanor, arms crossed in front of her chest. she was almost as angry at bruno as eleanor was. cedric helped bruno get back on his feet, keeping his eyes on ophelia.
"alright bruno why don't you just apologize to cram," cedric said to break the silence, "we've got a party to get to so let's get on with it mate." when he mentioned the party he looked right at ophelia. her eyes got big. it seemed as if he wanted her to take note of it.
"im so sorry eleanor." bruno smirked at eleanor before walking past her, bumping her shoulder. alastair followed him and eleanor huffed before turning around to walk among the sea of hufflepuffs. cedric stood in front of ophelia. the corridor was practically empty, leaving the two alone. he took a step forward and took her hand. she took in a sharp breath and looked in his eyes.
"are you alright? bruno can be a prick sometimes. other than that, how are you liking hogwarts so far, lia?" hands still together, ophelia bit her lower lip out of nervous. she gripped his hand tighter, intertwining their fingers even further. cedric's heart was practically about to burst out of his chest.
"it's been fine. still the first day. eleanor is my roommate. she been a good friend so far," she looked down and then looked up at cedric. he was paying intense attention to her watching her every move. "so, there is a party? how do you guys not get caught? we would get murdered at beauxbaton if we even muttered the word party." the pair giggled and cedric pulled his hand away from ophelia's. he stuck his hands in his pockets and began walking. she followed him, the pair now standing side by side.
"we surround the common room with silencing charms and make some of the first years stand watch. a bit unfair if you ask me but that how it's always been." he looked at ophelia and admired her side profile as a grin crept on her face.
"yeah i remember you telling me after your first year having to stand watch for the back to hogwarts party," she giggled, "so where are we going?" she looked around at the empty corridors. it was dark now and they were now below ground level. they had passed by the kitchens and were stood in front of a stack of barrels. cedric stopped in front of them and tapped the barrels lids. two from the bottom, middle of the second row. it took five taps for one of the barrel lids to swing open. cedric held his hand out, signaling for ophelia to take it. they crawled through the entrance and stood back on there feet.
"this is the hufflepuff basement, where our common room and dormitories are," he took up as if he were seeing it for the first time with his hands in his pockets before looking back down at ophelia again, "alright girl dormitories are right down that way, your name should be on the door. get ready for the party. it's in an hour. see you later, little lia." he smirked at her before turning around towards the boys dormitories. ophelia took a quick look at the common room. countless plants surrounded the room and vines were draped all over the place. the walls were painted gold and huge circle shaped windows surrounded the perimeter near the ceiling. exposed wooden beams lined up the ceiling and in the stone fireplace, wood was burning. she turned towards the girls dormitories once she was done looking around and went to find her room.
