I lay in the darkness next to the one I loved; we listened to every breath, every beat of a heart, every bit of movement or shuffle of clothes on carpet. We reached for one another's hands through the darkness, fumbling around until we found them. I smiled, even though he couldn't see me. I couldn't see him either, but I knew he was smiling back.

The dark was the one place where nobody could judge us, the one place we couldn't be discovered. We had been creatures of the dark for 7 months now, together, in love and hiding in each other's arms away from the light.

Nobody knew about us but.. Well, us. But we liked it that way. When we wanted people to know, we would tell them, but for now, we were okay just being in the dark.

As we lay in our own land, it was penetrated by the sound of shuffling feet and hushed voices. My eyes opened instinctively and I listened closer through the silence.

"Kellin." I whispered, my voice barely audible enough for my own ears to hear.

"Mmmmmm?" He quietly responded.

"People." I replied quickly, and Kellin shot up, knowing exactly what I meant. We positioned ourselves to lie facing away from each other on our sides, putting textbooks in front of us so it seemed like we had fallen asleep studying. Right after I closed my eyes for effect, I heard the door swing open and hit the wall behind it lightly.

"Awwww, goals!" I heard my best friend, Jaime, whisper-shout. My mouth twitched upward in an attempt to hide my smile.

I could see the room fill with light even through my closed eyelids. I heard the floor creak as we were most likely creepily stared at and investigated.

"They totally need to date. DUDE, we should set them up!" I heard another voice- my brother, Mike- whisper-shout back.

"Let's do it. But how?" I practically saw them stroking their chins playfully as they brainstormed.

"Let's just make plans to go to the movies or something, then cancel last minute so they basically go on a date. They'll fuck, we'll take the credit- it's a win-win situation here." Mike said. I rolled my eyes underneath my eyelids.

"Let's do it, man. First, we should wake them up." Jaime suggested, and I felt his presence move closer and closer to my face. "Wakeyyyy wakeyyyy Victorrrrr....." I heard him whisper in my ear in what I would call the CREEPIEST VOICE EVER, and I pretended to wake up slowly. I fluttered my eyelids open, only to see a Jaime staring at me, inches from my face. I jumped back, startled, and placed my hand over my heart dramatically.

"DUDE, HAVEN'T WE TALKED ABOUT THIS THING CALLED PERSONAL SPACE?" I half-shouted at him. He just laughed his ass off in front of me and I glared at him. Idiot.

Next to me, Kellin pretended to awaken gracefully as well, rubbing his eyes and lowering his voice an octave. "What's going on and why is Jaime acting like an idiot?" I smirked at his voice change and surprisingly convincing acting skills.

"Oh, he decided it would be a wonderful idea to kill one of his best friends by sudden heart attack." I explained, then glared at Jaime again. Mike just laughed along with him and I shot him the same look.

"Well, what are you guys doing here anyway?" Kellin asked, and shot me a knowing glance along with a smile. I winked at him when they weren't looking, creating silent agreements.

"We wanted to see if you guys we up for a movie tomorrow?" Mike smirked, trying to hide it casually with a friendly smile. These two are so stupid sometimes, it's hilarious. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from smiling. Kellin just looked at me, and I did a thumbs up out of sight of the others, just for him.
