Get Jinxed (Jinx x female reader)

Chapter 24

"The world grows smaller everyday, thanks to the Hex Gates," Dad sighs, bringing a hand up to hold his head.

"And now we're cut off. The topsides are leaving us further behind," he said as he struggled with the Shimmer injector do hikey in his hand.

"What happened?" Dad asked us both looking up at us. 

"She already told you," J mumbled out  loud enough for him to hear. I stopped playing with her hair which made the long blue plaits fall off the end of the flooring.

"I'm asking you too," he replied clicking the metal injector as he spoke. J looked over at me and I nodded understanding what she wanted me to do.

J jumped down onto the desk followed by me who landed next to her her. As we landed, we sent stray papers flying off the desk and onto the wooden floor.

J was sat with legs crossed, uo to her chest and her head down and she mumbled, "One- one of those firelight wakos was a girl- with pink hair."

I heard Dad grumble in distaste at the mention of Js sister. She had told me vague stories about her sister. Her name was Vi, short for Violet, and she looked after her when their parents died. She told me about how Vi abandoned her when she was just trying to help which made me feel a burning hatred for her.

I sweat if I ever see Vi, I'm gonna put her 6 feet underground for hurting Jinx.

Wrapping a comforting arm around her, J lifted her head as Dad spun around slowly and handed her the injector. To which she takes gladly.

J had moved herself to the edge of the desk with her feet on the side of Dad's chair while Dad just leaned back.

"Your sisters gone. You know that as much as I do," Said Dad and he looked over at J.

"I know!" Jinx stated but she looked like she was trying to ignore the memories that floated to the surface of her mind.

"I know! Sisters right? You can't live with them, and can't stuff them back into the old baby maker," J joked and chuckled obviously trying to distracted herself. In the end, she ended uo just blowing down the injector, making a low whistle sound echo through the room.

Dad looked at Jinx with a serious face, "Todays screw uo will set us back weeks," he said with seriousness weaved through his voice.

(Does that last sentence even make any sense?)

J had given uo trying to distracted him and leaned against his chair, legs over his. I just watched them as they had their moment but I giggled a bit when J was joking around.

"I'm sorry..." J apologied sadly and moved her head to lean on his.

"I need to know I can rely on you," Dad said but then he grabbed her wrist lightly when he saw that instead of paying full attention, she was pretended that the injector was an airship.

"I'm doing this for us Jinx, the three of us. ALL of us. The sons and daughters of Zaun deserve more than their run off," Dad explained pulling J to face him.

"It won't happen again."

"I know."

J lined up the needle with the pupil of his orange and black eye, ready to give him his weekly shot of Shimmer.
