CLARISSA'S POV

It been over an hour since we arrived at the pack house and still my dad hasn't come out of his office with any news. Naturally, my mind would be preoccupied with what the hell they're saying up there, but it's not. If anything, I'm still fussing over the little moment I had with Lionel 45 minutes ago. We haven't really spoken a lot since then, just being consumed in our own thoughts. Well, I am. Lionel ended up falling asleep about half an hour ago.

I just... I have a feeling he's not telling me the truth. You know when someone tells you something but you still get that churning feeling in the bottom of your stomach? Yeah, it's like one of those feelings. I want to trust Lionel and I do, but that fake smile, his eyes, his non-confession has just made me ponder. I know for a fact that once Lionel has lied to me, he tells me the truth. Not that he's lied to me, but he did that with his past.

What in the world could he be lying about now?

I sift back through his story about his past, how his parents died and how he ran away. It all seems legit, especially with the evidence that he can hold dad's gaze. I just don't understand... It was so hard for him to admit all those things to us, yet, it seems he has something even bigger to hide. What, is the question.

"Lis? You out here?" Dylan's voice sounds through the open sliding door, his head facing the opposite way to me. I hum to catch his attention, making his head snap around. He rolls his eyes at the sight of Lionel and I, probably hearing Lionel's soft snoring.

"We've come up with a solution to keep you safe. You might wanna drag along that sleeping puppy." Dylan chuckles, leaning against the frame of the door. I sigh and run a hand through my hair, peering back at my sleeping mate. He looks so peaceful, like he's the most innocent being in all the world.

"Lis, is something wrong? You have that face." Dylan says concerned, pushing himself off the frame to walk over to me. I shake my head, also standing up.

"Don't worry about it Dylan. Wait, what face?" I ask confused, scrunching my eyebrows together. Dylan shrugs.

"That face when you're upset or concerned. Your lips are always in a frown and your nose always has this light pink colour to it. It's kinda cute." He answers teasingly, pinching my nose. I smile lightly and swat his hand away.

"Oh, shush you." I reply with a grin. I miss joking around with my brothers, it's been a while.

I turn back to Lionel and shake him lightly. He springs awake, his eyes half open as his body straightens up.

"I didn't take a cookie..." His voice trails off. I raise an eyebrow and chuckle at his random wake up. I hear Dylan scoff next to me, but don't look back to see the face of amusement I know is there.

"Far out, Clarissa. Did you have to wake me up?" Lionel grumbles, rubbing his eyes of sleep like he's a baby. I shake my head with a smile, my earlier concerns disappearing into the back of my mind to deal with later. If Lionel is hiding something from me, he'll eventually tell me and I'll respect that.

"Yes, I did. Come on, dad wants us." I urge, taking ahold of his hand and dragging him up. His senses seem to waken with my words because his eyes are suddenly void of any sleep and his body straightens out completely as he stands up.

"Let's not keep him waiting then." Lionel jokes lightly, he eyes never leaving me. I smile up at him as Dylan's gags. I slap his arm playfully.

"You'll find your mate one day, Dylan, and when you do, I'm going to tease you to the ends of the earth." I admit with a Cheshire Cat grin. Dylan grins right back, shaking his head.
