Sal's POV:
It was late on a Thursday night. It was around 10 p.m., and I was on my way back to my apartment from my late-night classes. I felt my phone vibrate for a split second in my pocket, so I did what any normal human would do and checked it. When I checked it, it was around 10:11 p.m.
I was expecting at least three or four notifications because most of my friends knew I would be attending my night classes, but oh was I completely wrong. I was met with a shit ton of missed calls and messages from Travis. I don't mean like five or ten notifications, no no-
There were 300+ missed calls and 200+ missed messages from the last two hours.
'Shit,' I thought, realizing I had unintentionally ignored Travis all day until now. I finally decided to call him back after several minutes of deep breathing and regaining my courage.
'ring,,,ring,,,ring,,,beep-'
"Travis?!" I quickly called out, before getting cut off. "I'm sorry, the number you're trying to reach doesn't exist." 'beep'
I just stood there in silence as time quickly passed by. 10:15,,,10:16,,,10:17,,, I wasn't sure how I was supposed to react. Travis's number was undeniably the one I had called.
After several failed attempts to contact him, I decided to quickly signal a nearby taxi and get in. Because of the looks, the driver gave me, I'm sure it was obvious I was in a panicked state of mind. Before he spoke up, I had almost forgotten to tell him the location's address.
"So, miss, where are you heading?"
I ignored the misgendering because he couldn't see my entire face due to my face mask. I stumbled a little with my words, but I eventually gave him the address to my apartment complex, not realizing how much I would regret it later on. He seemed shocked by the sound of my voice, but I decided not to think too much about it.
"May I ask as to why you seem to be in a hurry tonight?"
Despite the fact that I could clearly hear him, I remained silent. Instead of some unpleasant taxi driver, my thoughts were drawn to Travis.
"So you're the quiet type, eh?"
He said to himself, though it was evident that he wanted me to hear what he was saying, which I decided to ignore in order to prove his point. When I wasn't ignoring the old man, I was trying to reach Travis on the phone, but I was unsuccessful every time.
"So- how old are you?"
He was desperate for a response at this point, so I finally let out a quiet sigh and gave him what he wanted.
"O-Oh uhm, I'm 21."
He nodded his head in a strange approving manner.
"So, do you live a-"
"No-! I-I actually live with my boyfriend,,,very far away-"
I said rather quickly in hopes to change the subject. He then let out a low chuckle that was soft yet unsettling.
"You say you have a boyfriend? So, you're gay?"
In response, I quickly shook my head.
"W-So, I'm not completely gay? Actually, I'm a pansexual."
In response, he hummed softly.
"I see, quite fascinating. I'm gay myself."
"Oh, really? That's pretty cool."
I said, smiling softly, before realizing he couldn't see it. He then continued to ask me odd and personal questions for the rest of the ride. Some questions were: "How long have you and your boyfriend been together?", "Were you born male or female?", ""So- do you attend college here at all?" And many more. Of course, I answered most of the questions, but I kept it to a bare minimum.
Finally, we had reached my apartment, though I didn't tell him it was exactly mine. I didn't have to think twice before exiting the vehicle quickly.
"I can walk you to the apartment door if you'd like."
He asked, but I would rather him not know our exact apartment, so I shook my head.
"Oh uhm,,,thanks, but I'm fine on my own."
He sighed, clearly annoyed and disappointed, but remained in his car.
"See you later, cutie," he said with a wink as he drove off into the distance.
