It's been a week, when the dinner incident happened. To say I forgot everything, would be a lie. But my family, made every efforts to calm my constant anxiety. It felt as if they were walking on eggshells around me. It was so heartbreaking to see such jovial people, sad and depressed because of me. So I did what came to my mind.

We were sitting at the breakfast table when I brought up my thoughts.

"Dad, mom. Lisa and Andrew. Thank you for being my family.  You filled the holes of my life and I love you all for that. So can I ask for something?"

"Yes son. Your mom and I will give you anything that's in our capacity."

"Can you sign these papers for me? Only if you want to."

I put a file in front of my parents, waiting for their reactions. Lisa was so confused about the situation, whereas Andrew was full-on smiling. Yes, he knew. Infact, he was the first person that I approached regarding this matter at hand.

"What are these papers for, Rian?"

Mom was confused but on the other hand there were tears shining through dad's eyes.

"I want to take your last name, mom, dad."

"Are you sure boy?"

"Yes dad. I'm so sure. It was running through my mind from a long time and when I talked to Andy, I was confirmed about this decision."

My words were glistening everyone's eyes with happy tears and that's when my melodramatic friend-now sister, jumped up from her chair to pull me into a tight hug.

"OMG Ri. We are siblings now. You are my brother. Oh god. I just can't believe it. Let's celebrate."

And we all agreed to Lisa, for once.

Her hug was followed by Andrew's and then our parents.

Those papers were legal papers and from today, I was a Park.

RIAN JENNINGS PARK.
