Marvel cleans the wound on his arm before turning his full attention to Rye, who stares at the trees beyond him. Even when Marvel soaks his hands in water and starts to wipe the blood from her face, her eyes still stare at the trees. She doesn't even flinch when the cool water glides along her skin. Soon he has to force her to her feet. He takes her jacket off before walking her into the river so he can wash the blood from her hair. Soaking her and himself, she's still somewhere beyond this arena, and all Marvel can do is wash all the blood off her. After a bit he just relaxes in the water, watching Rye as she sits on a sunken rock, allowing part of her body to be above the water. Some time passes before her thousand-yard stare begins to eat away at him, forcing him to intervene.
Moving over to her, he grabs her chin gently but firmly, forcing her to look at him. He watches her pupils dilate, showing Marvel what a beautiful shade of blue her eyes are. "What are you thinking?" he asks her quietly, watching the fog disperse from her eyes. "Rybbon, what are you thinking?" he asks once more. He moves his hands to hold the sides of her face, making sure she doesn't try to look away.
Rybbon takes in a few heavy breaths, her breathing becoming abnormal before mumbling, "Why is there so much blood?" Her hands tremble at the thought. "I said I'd do anything to get back to Cookie but-" she cuts herself off, closing her eyes and leaning into Marvel's touch. He leans his forehead up against hers, giving her the affection she needed. "I just can't believe I killed her. She had a sister. A family," she continues on. She grabs onto Marvel's wrists, needing some sort of stability. She forces herself to take a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment.
"You go around in case someone else is coming." Rye nods in agreement before taking a longer route, her breaths coming out heavy from her running.
She soon stop in her steps spotting a someone running in front of her. She watches for a moment before it clicks that that is the Girl from 12. And when it does click, Rye sprints after her, seeing as she's following the scream.
She watches as 12 stops in her tracks, aiming her arrow at Marvel who just go into their line of sight, she screams response, sprinting towards 12. 12 drops her aim, looking over her shoulder only for Rye to collide with her. 12 loses her bow and is knocked to the ground. She gasps for air and grabs at the ground hoping to find her bow. But Rye is faster. She grabs her sword which she dropped during the collision, aiming it at her head. 12 is able to grab her bow, swinging it to where i collides with Rye's face, knocking her to the ground. She aims an arrow at Marvel and fires before turning her attention back to Rye, pressing her bow against her throat. Rye tries to grab her blade, only for 12 to kick it away. All Rye can do is scratch at her hands.
"Cookie," she lets out, her vision growing black.
Then a scream echoes in the forest. The pressure on Rye's throat disappears, and when she opens her eyes she sees a spear in 12's shoulder. In response, she immediatley knocks her off, turns to grab he sword and embeds it into her head. She repeats a few more times until she remembers she needs to breath. She takes in deep breaths, slowly comes to the realization as to what she's done. Two cannons go off, signaling the death of her and whomever was in the trap. But still, Rye can't seem to catch her breath no matter how hard she tries. She get up to her feet, trying to wipe the blood from her face, but it only makes it worse.
"It won't come off," she mumbles to herself, the blood smearing on her hands. And then her vision clears, seeing what she's done to 12 face. She never seen so much blood.
"Rybbon." Despite Marvel calling her she watches the blood pour from 12's wounds. The wounds she made. "We've got to go."
She forces herself to take a deep breath, finding it hard to catch her breath. She can feel the tears beginning to spring in her eyes. But she can't do that. She won't be known as the girl who cries. Never that. "I never want Cookie to go through this. See that much blood. And how loud bones are when they break. Never."
He pulls his hands from her grasp before holding her, placing his chin on top of her head. "It's over. Just breathe, Rye. Breathe." Her rubs her back gently as she grips his wet shirt.
"Just hold me for a little while," she asks. She feels like Cookie. Her cheeks redden at the thought but Marvel simply holds her tighter, forcing tears from her eyes.
"However long you need."
