A light midnight dew has fallen, leading the ground to become soaked with moisture. It makes Rye's boots slowly but surely get soaked. Still, the two press on, bellies filled with fish and water and ready to fight. It had been a good bit of walking before they see the cornucopia. Rye swallows dryly at the sight, the grip on the blade tightening.

But then the Panem symbol pops up in the sky. Rye watches as the boy from 11 shows up and then the boy from 12 before her attention is drawn elsewhere. In the light of the projection, she spots a body in the tree line. She eyes it for a moment trying to figure out what it is. And then she hears the growl. It's difficult to hear as the anthem plays, but when she hears it her hear slows for a moment. Slowly, she takes a few steps toward the cornucopia, watching as more bodies begin to show.

"Marvel. We need to go, now."

As soon as the projection disappears, she hears their footsteps. So many feet running at once.

"RUN!"

The two sprint toward the cornucopia, hoping to make some distance between them and the creatures. The midnight dew makes it difficult, the soles of their shoes slipping on the grass. Still, they're able to make it to the cornucopia. As Marvel gives her a lift up, Rye clings to the side, hurling herself onto the top like a fish. She leans over the side to bring Marvel up, and just as she does she spots two people running from the woods with a pack of the creatures behind them. As soon as Marvel gets to the top, both try to catch their breath before Rye tries to speak.

"C-Cato," she gasps, pointing at the two tributes running for their lives. Both watch as the two finally make it to the cornucopia, and Cato climbs up immediately, leaving Clove to fend for herself.

She's barely able to get her footing on the giant structure before she is bitten by one of the mutts. She screams out as she's pulled back down to the ground with a thud. Rye and Marvel look over the side, watching in horror as the mutts tear her apart. Her screams echo before she's cut off when a mutt rips out her throat.

"Oh my-" Rye has to turn away from the scene, feeling her stomach tense as her throat gets filled with vomit. She goes to the other side of the cornucopia to throw up the food she just ate. Despite emptying the stomach of its content she still gags and throws up some stomach acid, the images repeating themselves in her head.

A tug on the back of her collar throws her off her feet. She loses her breath again when she slams into the metal structure. Her vision becomes double, seeing two Cato's standing above her, his eyes gleaming with pure joy at her suffering. But then Marvel slams into him, bringing them both to the ground. She can hear the two fight but it takes her a few moments to get her breath back. Once she does, she feels for the berries in her pocket, finally able to grab them when she hears a scream. Marvel's scream. Looking over, she spots him laying in a small pool of his own blood, his leg cut from the top of his thigh almost down to his knee. Cato stands above him, the blood on his sword shining in the moonlight.

"You think you can just trick me? Huh?!" he yells. The veins on his hand throb as he tightens his grip. Marvel doesn't respond, gripping his leg in pain. "You think you can win just because you blew up the food?" Rye forces herself to her feet, whimpering at the pain in her spine. Nevertheless, her anger bubbles, hearing the laugh from Cato's mouth. "Thanks for the easy kill, at least." He raises his sword above his head, Marvel looking away in fear, only for nothing to happen.

Rye jumps onto Cato's back, wrapping her arm tightly around his neck, the other bringing the berries to his lips, forcing them in his mouth before clamping his mouth shut. He struggle for a bit, trying to yank her off him while trying not to swallow whatever she put into his mouth. He's able to toss her over his shoulder, slamming her against the metal once more. She gasps for air, her vision almost completely dark. Cato is all she sees once again, him standing above her before spitting the berries onto her. She feels them hit her, but she's too busy wheezing.

"Stupid bitch," he spits at her. However, Rye is able to see him stumble, his eyes looking a bit heavy. "I'm going...I'm going to kill you..." his words waver, his hand shaking trying to hold onto his sword. "What did you...What-" His eyes roll to the back of his head before he collapses. A moment of silence passes, Rye staring at Cato's fast breathing and fluttering eyelids before she hears Marvel's groan, scrambling to him. He's trying to push his leg close, hoping it'll slow down the bleeding.

"Fuck," he cries out, finally noticing the large pool of blood they're both sitting in, his face slowly becoming pale. "This is how I die?" he gasps, trying to get his breathing to even. "I was hoping it'd be quicker," he laughs slightly, his eyes tearing up. Rybbon can only stare for a while, unsure of how to react before digging into her pocket once more. She clumsily pulls out the last berries from the sack, holding them shakily.

"This," she starts, moving closer to Marvel, "this will make quick. You won't feel anything." She tries to place them in his mouth, only for him to push her away. "Please just take them," she begs, bringing the berries to his lips. "I don't want you to suffer more than you have to. Please." She watches as his expression changes from pain to despair to almost depressing disappointment in less than a few seconds.

"Sing, please. I may not be able to see the sun but I want to hear that little song." His words hit her hard. The tears immediately fall from her eyes. There's a tight feeling in her chest, making it hard to breathe. Despite this, she forces herself to take in a deep breath. Marvel needs her right now. She needs to be strong just like she is with Cookie. Cookie...

"Okay," sighs, wiping the tears from her face and her eyes. "Okay," she says once more, calming herself. She moves behind Marvel, allowing him to lay his head on her lap. "You ready?" He nods his head, gently grabbing the berries from her hand, allowing her to softly brush her fingers through his hair.

Je te laisserai des mots

He puts the berries in his mouth, chewing them quickly before swallowing them. He watches her as she sings, a soft yet tired smile on his lips.

En-dessous de ta porte
En-dessous de les murs qui chantent
Tout près de la place où tes pieds passent

His eyelids become heavy, his smile slowly disappearing.

Cachés dans les trous de ton divan
Et quand tu es seule pendant un instant

He slowly tilts his head back, his eyes rolling back in his head before his eyelids begin to flutter. Rye has to cover her mouth, forcing the sob she wants to let out. She has to finish the song first. She has to.

Ramasse-moi
Quand tu voudras

Embrasse-moi

Quand tu voudras

Ramasse-moi

Quand tu voudras

By the end, his heaving chest has stopped moving. His whole body stopped. The blood still seeps from his leg but he doesn't cry out in pain. He doesn't say anything. All Rybbon is able to do is lean down and kiss him on the lips, feeling the warmth slowly drain from them.
