The midday sunlight reflected off of my silver ray gun making it look as if I were holding a piece of light. I watched the reflected light dance around on the dirt.

“Mikey! You don’t kick a man there!” Gerard’s voice screamed. A red ray gun landed in the dirt directly in front of me. The loud tread and panting told me that Mikey was coming for his ray gun. I picked it up and got to my feet spinning on my heels to face a very flustered looking Mikey in a murky green tank top with his blonde hair plastered to his face with sweat. I held the gun out to him and out my weight onto my right leg to indicate that I wasn’t in the mood to make any small talk.

“Thanks.” He said breathlessly, taking the gun from my loose grip. I briskly walked back over to the worn beach chair and lay down closing my eyes.

“Maddie, are you mad at me?” Mikey asked worriedly. I sighed and sat upright opening my eyes. I turned to face him. He never called me Maddie unless he thought I was about to rip a man’s head off.

“I’m not mad, at you or anyone. I’m just tired.” I muttered, closing my eyes again.

“Please, just tell me the truth. What did I do wrong?” He pleaded.

“Mikey! Why are you taking so long?” Gerard yelled with an angered tone.

“Go, before your brother starts being more of an annoyance.” I grumbled putting my arms over my face in an effort to block the world out. I heard Mikey sigh and the scuffling of his boots wasn’t hard to miss.

“Hey Bunny!” Ray’s cheery voice said. I opened my eyes angrily to see the fro blocking my sun. None of those damn males can leave me alone.

“Go away, Ray.” I mumbled rolling over. I hit the dirt with a loud thud.

“Maddie!” I heard Frank’s voice call and the loud pounding of feet. “Are you okay?” He asked hurriedly.

“Dude, chill. I only fell off a chair. I’m not hurt.” I said.

“Bunny!” Mikey’s flustered yell was not necessary. I opened my eyes and looked up at the three faces that were looking down at me. The feet pounding on the ground coming straight towards us was unmistakably Gerard.

“Maddie,” He panted, “What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Who hurt you? I swear to god that if anyone hurt you.”

“Gee, calm down. I just fell off the chair and you’re all overreacting.” I said.

“Fine. If you can get up, get up.” Gerard said angrily.

“Gerard.” Mikey scolded wrapping his arm around my shoulder and gently pulling me off the ground. The sharp pain in my left ankle was not normal and I flinched at the pain.

“Bunny? What’s wrong?” Mikey asked, concerned.

“Just my ankle. Don’t worry I’ll be sweet after a race. One, two, three, go!” I broke into a sprint and desperately tried not to notice the pain that was shooting up my leg with every step.

“You’ll never catch me!” Gerard screamed as he ran in front of me.  I pushed myself harder. I was so close to him that I went to take him my surprise, grabbing Gerard around the waist I fell back onto the dirt with his weight falling on top of me. We both started laughing like hyenas.

“Gee! Bunny!” Mikey called. I could tell that he was worried, he tends to worry about Gee and I too much. I pushed Gerard off of me and sat up waving in Mikey’s direction. When he finally got over to us he picked me up by the shoulders and hugged me.

 “Be careful.” He whispered.

“You worry too much. Now, we should get back to Frank and Ray.” I said.

The three of us started walking back. I was limping slightly hoping that Mikey wouldn’t notice. There was quite a long way left to go until we got back to Frank and Ray.

“Bunny, why are you limping? Gerard can you carry Bunny back?” Mikey said.

“Chill, I’m fine.” I lied through my teeth.

“No, you’re not Limpy.” Gerard said as he scooped me up in his arms. I hung my head back at looked at Mikey.

“You don’t need to make Gee do this. I can walk. It’s only a sprain.” I said when Mikey stole a glance at me.

Soon enough we were met by two concerned killjoys. I gave them both a ‘help me’ look.

“Gerard, can you put Bunny down? She looks mad.” Frank asked.

I slithered out of Gerard’s arm and managed to land with my hands on the ground. I quickly got to my feet and walked into the hut.

“Now, if you please, leave me alone.” I snapped climbing onto one of the hammocks and closing my eyes.
