I pried my eyes open and witnessed the darkness around me. I shivered as a draft swept past me. The guys must be asleep. I forced myself to sit upright. I felt wave of dizziness and nausea push me back down. I groaned.
“Mikey! What is it?” Bunny’s voice whispered anxiously. I could soon see her glimmering green eyes scanning me.
“It’s fine... I’m all right. Just dizzy.” I whispered back.
She put the back of her cold hand on my forehead.
“I was hit in the head, I’m not sick.” I grumbled in protest.
“Quiet. The guys are sleeping and I was just checking. You’re cold.” She whispered.
I soon felt warmer due to something being draped over me. It was Bunny’s jacket.
“No, take this back. You’ll freeze.” I whispered. Trying to take her jacket off without raising my head.
“I’ll survive. You need to rest and it’s my job to look after you.” She said with the firm tone implying that it was final.
I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep but I soon heard Bunny’s soft snoring. By then I was too tired to even open my eyes.
I was shaken awake roughly. I opened my eyes in alarm. It was Ray.
“Bunny’s sick. She’s too weak.” He said urgently.
I instantly sat up but before I even had time to blink my head was doing the conga.
“Whoa...” I whispered trying to grab onto something before I passed out. Ray gabbed my arms and held me upright until my head cleared.
“We gotta go.” Ray said pulling me from the hammock and pulled me after him out to where Frank was kneeled beside a Bunny with blue lips.
“Bunny!” I yelled as I attempted to run over to her but fell on my face.
“Mikey, are you okay?” Ray asked as he picked me up.
“Yeah, I just need to regain strength in my legs.” I grumbled.
“Mikey, how are you feeling?” Bunny asked before she started coughing violently.
Frank made her lie down once she stopped coughing.
“You need to relax.” He said.
“What’s wrong with her?” I asked Frank cautiously.
“I don’t know but it sure as hell is not just a cold. Did she not have her jacket last night?” Frank asked.
“I- She gave it to me because I was cold and she refused to have me cold.” I explained, ashamed that I didn’t make her just wear it and not fuss over me.
“So you’re telling me, that you just let her freeze? Mikey what in the world is wrong with you?” Gerard asked in disbelief.
“I would have stopped her but I couldn’t. I couldn’t even lift my head.” I said. I never thought I’d have to defend my case against my own brother.
“It’s true. It took him almost a minute until he could even look in a straight line when I went to get him.” Ray defended me.
“And he did fall on his face on the way out here.” Frank piped in.
“To put it simply, Mikey is not okay.” Bunny said loudly.
I stumbled over to where Bunny was and sat down beside her head. I took my thick red Kobra Kid jacket and put it on her and forcefully zipping it up around her small frame.
“You need your jacket, Mikey.” She objected but I just put both of my hands on her shoulders, leaned in and kissed her softly.
I pulled away and whispered one sentence, “You’re cold.”
I wrapped my arms around her loosely and let her lean against me. Gerard, Ray and Frank were all jaw dropped. Bunny started softly snoring into my chest.
“Let’s get her back inside.” I suggested winding my arms around her and hugging her to my chest as I stood. I couldn’t stay very straight on my feet so I only attempted to not wake Bunny. I walked or you could say stumbled, over to the door and proceeded to her hammock where I lay down with her in my arms.
Gerard, Frank and Ray walked in and stood across from Bunny and I.
“What’s the plan?” Ray asked.
“We need to stop Korse but Bunny is in no shape to come with us and if we leave her here they might find her and what if they kill us?” Gerard explained.
“We need to keep everyone safe.” Frank stated bluntly.
“Bunny is not coming to Scarecrow and that is final.” I objected.
“It’s be safer for her if she were with one of us.” Gerard said.
“Every time she hurts, I bleed.” I whispered. She could get hurt or killed if we took her with us. I don’t want anything to happen to her because I would never stop blaming myself.
“Mikey, we need to take this risk.” Frank said.
“But are you willing to take that risk?” I asked as I looked at Bunny’s face.
“We have to.” Gerard growled.
