Master Sage Jyran didn't have time to mourn, didn't even have time to register the death of her Padawan. She wasn't given the time as the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress advanced on the Jedi Master, her dual red sabers hanging at her side, a wicked smile in her face. Next to Master Jyran the clone soldiers tried to desperately keep the advancing Separatist droids at bay, but they were losing, all around clones were dropped by blaster fire as the Separatists made their advance.

The assassin had managed to sneak onto the Mid Rim planet Kaji with a full legion of droids and launch a surprise attack on the Republic outpost in an attempt to gain complete control of the planet. Unfortunately, by the time one of the clones managed to raise that alarm, Ventress and her droids had already locked down all possible means of getting to and from the planet's surface and the Republic outpost itself.

Master Jyran's lightsaber flashed as she blocked one shot after another, but the incoming fire was too heavy for her to much of anything else. Ventress had already crossed blades with Master Jyran in the outpost's courtyard but now she willingly hung back, instead sending in her full battalion of droids to overwhelm the reinforcements.

"What is she waiting for?" Master Jyran wondered, searching the hangar for the assassin but her focus was suddenly drawn to a voice shouting behind her.

"General Jyran!" CT-7781, Captain Nakoa ran up to Jyran, firing into the seemingly endless onslaught of battle droids

"What is it, Captain?" Jyran asked, blocking another blast.

"General Plo Koon's forces have managed to finally land but he said that he is completely pinned down in the courtyard. He won't be able reach us." Nakoa ducked just in time, a shot going over his head, before returning fire.

"Are any more reinforcements arriving?" Master Jyran asked, "We are about to be completely overrun."

"I don't know, sir. General Plo said he tried to get a message out to Skywalker, but he doesn't know if it went through."

"Blast it," Sage muttered, "The one time I ask Skywalker for help, he's nowhere to be found."

"Captain," another clone's voice coming over the commlink was just barely audible over the sound of blasters, "The droids have pushed us back to near the command center. I don't know how much longer we could— Ah!" The trooper's connection severed but Master Jyran had a pretty good idea of what he was trying to say.

"Captain, tell the men to fall back to the command center. Secure it at all costs, I'll delay the droids."

Even though Sage couldn't see her captain's face from under the helmet she could tell that the order wasn't one he wanted to hear and in the middle of a fight for her life and the lives of her men, Master Jyran still managed a smile. Nakoa was nothing if not loyal.

"I gave you an order, Captain." Sage blocked another shot and managed to reflect it back to its sender, the blast knocking the droid's head clean off its thin metal shoulders.

Nakoa nodded and signaled to his men. "Fall back. Back to the command center." All at once the clones began to retreat out of the main hangar and into the structure itself.

When the door closed the droids stopped firing and stood still, their guns trained on Sage.

"Master Jedi," Asajj Ventress' voice rang out in the large hangar. It wasn't a pleasant voice, it was full of anger, hate, and greed. "I see you have chosen to surrender."
