"Gabby had an accident."
"What? No, you gotta be kidding me!" I added with aghast. How can that happen? Just yesterday we were chatting, having a good time and today I hear this news. Graciousness! Out of angsty, I rushed towards the table to grab my phone but Mr. Singh gets the hold of my fidgeting hands first.
"What are you doing?"
"Calling Gabby."
"You can't," I give him a weird, questioning look. What does that even mean?
"What I mean to say is that you shouldn't be calling her right now. Just ask me, I was there with her when she got into that accident so, you can just ask me in place of directly contacting the patient. She's probably resting."
"Oh! I understand," He has a point but...
"You can talk to her later. I just think right now is not the right time to do that. And don't worry too much, Doc said it was just a minor ligament tear, nothing serious. She will be fine in a week or two. So now let go of the breath you have been holding in," Listening to his word, I let go my breath in a sigh... I didn't even know I was holding it in. I am so relieved that it isn't anything serious.
"What happened, though? Where did you see her?" I questioned, out of genuine concern and curiosity.
"Well, I am the one to blame for her accident."
"What? What in the world happened?"
"We coincidently met at the supermarket. We were chatting and walking our way to the parking when I saw a cyclist coming towards us. It looked like he wasn't in control of his bicycle and I didn't have enough time to beware Gabby of this potential danger. So, to save her, I pushed her aside accidentally tearing her ligament by exerting excessive force. Initially, I thought I broke her leg but by the grace of God, it was only a ligament," He look so ashamed, guilty and relieved at the same time. He continued, "I took her to the hospital and apologized for my horrendous mistake. Though she said she forgave me but I still am so ashamed of myself."
"Don't be. We all know you only did it out of good intent. If you haven't pushed her, I bet she must have broken more than just a ligament. So, stop blaming yourself. You already asked for her forgiveness and she forgave you, so you should forgive yourself too," I comfort him with a smile. He nodded with a sense of acknowledgment in his eyes.
"Thanks for saying that. You better call her in a day or two. Right now, she's with her family, resting so I don't think today's the right time."
I nod in understanding. We continue to talk. He told me about his business plans while I tried to get his insights on a few complicated cases which were eating away my nights.
"Holy Moly, it is already 5. I have a meeting with my business partner in 15 minutes."
"Business partner?" It is my first-time hearing about that.
