On the Dalek station, Jane Lyon had been marched to the interrogation room, where she was then strapped to a metal table placed in the centre of the chamber. Various electrodes were attached to her forehead as Daleks manned control panels on either side of the table. As preparations were completed, the main door opened and the dreaded form of the Black Dalek glided in.
"STATE YOUR IDENTITY," commanded the Black Dalek malevolently.
Jane glowered at the Dalek leader. "Jane Lyon, Commander of the starship PATHFINDER."
One of the Daleks manning the various interrogation control panels spoke up. "DETECTOR REGISTERS TRUTHFUL RESPONSE."
Satisfied that the equipment seemed to be functioning properly, the Black Dalek commenced his questioning. "WHY HAVE YOU COME TO THIS PLANET?"
Jane could see that there was no point lying as the Daleks would instantly know if she made any attempt to deceive them, and furthermore they must have already detected PATHFINDER in orbit with their advanced scanners. So she told the whole story of the energy trace that they had detected in the planet's rings and how PATHFINDER had been sent to investigate. However, she carefully neglected to mention the unexpected appearance of Clara and Me, as she did not want to give away any unusual details that could give the crew an advantage. Once she had finished, the Black Dalek rounded on one of its subordinates.

"THE ENERGY SIGNATURE GENERATED BY OUR SENTINEL UNITS HAS COMPROMISED THE SECURITY OF OUR BASE," rasped the Black Dalek angrily.
"IT WAS DUE TO A MINOR TECHNICAL FAULT IN ONE OF THE STATUS PODS," explained the Dalek scientist. "THE ARRIVAL OF THE ROBOT SATELLITE AT THAT TIME WAS NOT ANTICIPATED."
This statement did nothing to appease the Black Dalek. "MAINTENANCE OF OUR SENTINEL UNITS WAS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. NEGLIGENCE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. EXTERMINATE!"
Deadly rays fired out from the Black Dalek's gun-stick, blasting the scientist at point blank range, destroying it utterly. As other Daleks moved to remove the wreckage of the scientist, the Red Dalek entered the chamber.
"CONTACT WITH OUR SENTINEL UNIT ABOARD THE HUMAN CRAFT HAS BEEN LOST," it reported. "BATTLE COMPUTER SUGGESTS THAT THE HUMANS HAVE DESTROYED SENTINEL ONE AND MAY NOW BE MOVING TO COMMENCE COUNTERATTACK MEASURES."
The Black Dalek reacted at once. "OUR INVASION SHIPS ARE NOT YET READY TO DISEMBARK. ACTIVATE ALL REMAINING SENTINEL UNITS IN ORBIT. INSTRUCT THEM TO ATTACK AND DESTROY THE HUMAN SHIP IMMEDIATELY."
"I OBEY," replied the Red Dalek. As it glided out to the bridge, the Black Dalek turned to the remaining Dalek scientists.
"YOU WILL ASSIST WITH PREPARING THE SAUCERS FOR TAKE-OFF. ONCE YOU HAVE DONE SO, I SHALL INSTRUCT OUR ARMY TO BOARD THEM. WE CAN AFFORD TO WAIT NO LONGER. THE INVASION OF THE GALAXY MUST COMMENCE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"
"WE OBEY," replied the scientists, who quickly filed out of the room until only the Black Dalek and the restrained Lyon remained.
"YOU WILL REMAIN LOCKED IN THIS CHAMBER," stated the Black Dalek. "A GUARD WILL BE OUTSIDE TO ENSURE YOU DO NOT LEAVE. MAKE ANY ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE AND YOU WILL BE DESTROYED."
