I blush and look to the sea.

- No, it's just...

- Lía, we have to go or we'll be late! - Logan shouts from the umbrella, where he and Shea are collecting the towels.

Lia looks at me sadly.

- I have to go but is tomorrow still on? - she says.

- Sure, but if you want, we can meet somewhere else... What do you think of the cinema?

- Bad place for a first date, but it works for me. - She comments before running away.

- Wait... a date? Lia! - I say turning to where she was before, but she's already gone. - Date... - I whisper to myself.

The afternoon passes quickly, I manage to convince my father to have lunch on the beach, and we spend the afternoon there. When we get home, around seven pm, my cell phone starts to ring, and I answer it only to hear my best friend's screams through the speaker.

- ____! He said yes! - I take my phone away from my ear trying to recover my hearing.

- What?

- James! I asked him out and he said yes! - She says with a more moderate tone.

- Really! How great! Tell me, come on.

Three hours. That's how long it takes for my best friend to tell me how she managed to ask her childhood crush out with every detail.

- And he answered yes! Can you believe it? Four years waiting to tell him, and he says yes at the first try! How lucky I am - Nalia tells me.

-You are lucky, yes.

- And what did you have to tell me?

- Well, it turns out that the other day, at Starbucks, I met someone...

- WHAT? What's their name? How old are them? What zodiac sign are them? What color are their eyes? What...? Hold on. Is it a boy or a girl?

- It's a girl - I manage to answer one of the questions my friend asks me. - Her name is Lía, she is 16 years old, she has gray-blue eyes and she is a Scorpio. I think.

- AHHH - shouts my excited friend - You're going to have your first girlfriend!

- What? No! We're just friends for the moment... Although we do apparently have a date Tuesday at--

- Wait wait wait. Are you telling me that you've known her for two days and already have a date with her? That is not fair! - she complains- It has taken me four years and you 48 hours!

I talk to Nalia for a while longer, and when I hang up, I go downstairs to dinner and go to bed exhausted.

In the morning, my mother insists that we get up early again, today to go see the Getty Center. Yes. A museum. We are in Los Angeles and my mother wants to go see a museum. I cant believe it. My Uncle Peter has managed to wriggle out of it by saying he has to work, but no one believes it.

I have to admit that the museum wasn't too bad. It's just that I like to complain. Also, we only got lost a couple of times trying to find it, so more Taylor Swift and One Direction minutes for me. We go back to eat at home, and I eat fast, and go upstairs to change for my "date" with Lía. Because it's a date, right? Aghhhh us girls are too complicated.

What do I wear? Shorts or skirt? Blouse or t-shirt? What if I wear a dress? No, too formal. What if it's cold? WHAT DO I WEAR? In the end I opt for a summer blouse and wide pants, neither too formal nor too informal. A little mascara, lipgloss, I grab my bag and leave. Well almost.

- ____! Where do you think you're going? - yells my father.

I turn around in slow motion.

- Out

- In Los Angeles. A city you don't know. You are going out. Of course. Now the truth.

- I've made a friend and we're going for a walk. - I say shrugging my shoulders. - that's it.

My father sighs. He can't stop me from leaving, and he knows it, so he just kisses me on the forehead.

- Eight o'clock at home.

- Nine

- Half past eight, and as you get to thirty-one you are never going out again in your life.

I turn around smiling victoriously and, guided by Google Maps, I head towards the cinema.
