Today was a very tiring day. I'm still at the office right now, having my 15-minute break, and instead of taking snacks like everybody else has been doing, I simply lean on my table and tried to get a nap. But I can't, I just can't. I can hear noises from the snack room and it annoys me, might be because I'm too exhausted that I want to have peace and silence at this very moment.
Guess what? 50% of what I thought would happen, happened.
"Ask Duke your station and what you would do.", she almost-yelled while walking to her office.
"Who's Duke?" I asked, but she's nowhere to be seen. Okay, I'm doomed.
"That would probably be me." I turned around to the person who spoke beside me - the one who introduced me to the whole department, the one who will be my instructor for today.
"I'm Duke, and it's nice to meet you, Juliet." He said offering his hand, which I politely took and smiled.
"It's nice to meet you, too."
"So, this is going to be your working space." Duke told me as he led me to a desk placed outside someone's room office. And this desk is away from the other employees. Not what I was expecting.
"According to my father's assistant, I will be someone's assistant, too. So, it means, that office is the bookkeeper's office?" I asked referring to the office in front of me as Ma'am Tess's.
"The bookkeeper actually don't have her own office, just a table and chair for her - since she's mean." he almost whispered. "You will simply undergo a little bit of exposure to bookkeeping that's why you were assigned to do some task with her. But your real position here is to be the Financial Manager's Assistant." He continued.
"And who will that Financial Manager be?" I asked, getting the idea of who'll it be.
"It's.... Me." He answered hesitantly, looking unsure of his self.
"Okay. I'm not surprised." I said, shrugging of his diffidence. I placed the files my father gave me earlier at the office on the top of the table, checked what my space contains and found it comfortable enough for working. I swiveled my chair in front of him and asked him what am I going to do now.
"First, you need to re-check the records of the purchases the company had made, and know the purchases' purposes - I hope your father already gave you a copy of them. Then, I want you to make a report on that, a proposal on how we'll be able to lessen our expenses, especially on the transportation of the goods, it matters so much. Can you do that?" He asked, looking like he's really on business terms.
"Okay, sir. You can count on me." I answered with confidence. I can do this.
"Good. I'll leave you on your own now. If you have anything to ask, I'm just a door away." He said, and smiled. I think I've seen that smile before.
"Okay, thanks."
I started what he told me to do right away. I read all the records, checked them one by one. Some of the bills looked intriguing so I take note of them. I was still in the middle of what I was doing when someone cleared their throat. I hope I can get used to this throat-clearing thing.
"Yes, what can I help you?" I asked politely the guy who was standing in front of my desk. He was not just standing, he was leaning actually.
"You're the boss's daughter, I'm Jet." He introduced himself, offering his hand for me to shake.
