"A~nd you're back." Kit stops walking after seeing Lloyd entering the building. He placed the box of milk he was holding on the counter and met him at the door. "It's been only seventeen hours since you left to give us time to recover," he said in disbelief.
"Yes. With the tone of your voice, I'm guessing it wasn't enough." Lloyd chuckled and patted Kit's shoulder. "Since you're the first one who saw me, why don't I talk to you first?" Lloyd grabbed the box of milk Kit placed on the counter and returned it to him. "Why would you place this there for no reason?"
Kit looked at his drink then faced the other. "Absence of mind?" He followed Lloyd to the cafeteria, sitting away from the rest of the guests inside.
"Don't be embarrassed. Just tell me everything you saw that night. Where were you, and what were you doing on the hour of the murder?" Lloyd straightforwardly asked.
Kit was feeling uneasy, and Lloyd could sense that. He was rubbing his hands together, his eyes averted. "Can we agree on something first?" Lloyd raises his right brow at Kit's question. "If you want me to cooperate, give me something in return."
Lloyd clicks his tongue. "Is that necessary? All you have to tell me is your whereabouts. Why are you asking for something in return?"
Kit's eyes slowly became mischievous. "I was taught not to do anything for free. If this doesn't do me any good, I won't tell you anything."
It was the second Lloyd realized that he wasn't questioning an ordinary citizen. Of course. It would still be hard to get something from them. Why did I think they'd cooperate? "Listen here, Mr. Kim. What you just told me can be used against you. You want me to give you something in return...? All right. Telling me what you saw can get you off the suspect list. If you lie to me, we'll have a big problem."
Kit gulped and drank from his box of milk. That didn't work. He thought as he placed the milk on the table. "I was at the party before the blackout."
Lloyd takes out his notebook and jots down Kit's statement. "I rechecked the cameras, and you were indeed at the venue. Did you leave?"
"I wasn't feeling well and decided to rest in my room. The halls were too dark. I wasn't able to see anyone. If I did, I would've alerted the staff back at the party," Kit continued.
"How about a noise? Did you hear anything unusual?" Kit shook his head as his reply. "What else?"
"That employee Geo was talking about... I heard he disappeared." Kit wasn't sure if he should bring that up, but he found it suspicious.
"Disappeared? Did they fire him?" Lloyd asks.
"I'm not sure. I just overheard Geo's conversation with one of the staff. You should ask him about it." Lloyd took note of that and faced Kit again with eyes, asking him to continue. "That's all I know."
Lloyd leans against his chair and rereads Kit's statement. "I'll get back to you when I need to clarify anything." He stands up, his hands reaching out to Kit. "I appreciate your cooperation."
