05 | AWKWARD INTERACTION

A FEW MONTHS LATER.
HIP-HOP FEST | SATURDAY.

KAM SWERVED ONTO THE GRASS trying to not run into anyone while driving the APD 4-wheeler she was given. She was rushing from one side of Piedmont Park to the other.

Today was her very anticipated Hip-Hop Fest and she had been running up and down with no sleep since Thursday. She rushed towards backstage and turned off the 4-wheeler.

She tried to catch her breath while running up the stage stairs. "What's going on?" She said in between breaths. "The AV system isn't working.." Jay, her assistant advised.

"Fuck" Kam uttered, taking deep breaths. "Okay..." She walked over to the AV system. She looked at it for a minute and began to take wires in and out. She replaced the yellow with the red one. Then the green one with the white one.

"Check it." She told the DJ. The DJ scratched his turntables for a few seconds. He was about to stop when he heard the sound come on.

"Yes!" Kam and her crew celebrated. "What aren't you good at?" Her assistant asked walking with Kam down the stage steps.

"You just gotta do what you gotta do" Kam said jumping back onto the 4-wheeler. "Radio me if there's a problem. I gotta go check out the food truck area." She said taking off.

It was nearing time for the concert to start. The first celebrities to perform were already getting ready in their trailers. Kam looked at her clipboard while sitting on her 4-wheeler parked on top of a small hill.

"Erica Banks, Money Mu, BRS Kash, and Mooski are first to perform." She talked to herself. "KK to JJ" she talked on the radio.

"Go ahead" Jay, her assistant responded. "Are all four opening acts ready? Start time is in ten minutes." Kam spoke.

"We are set. Erica Banks is on her way to the stage" Jay responded. "Ten-four" Kam said.

She heard the Dj on the mic start to get the crowd hype for the first act to come out. Each act had to perform 2-3 songs during the first hour. The second hour, the medium level artists like Yung Bleu, and Morray performed 3-4 songs.

Which then left the last two hours for A list celebrities like Latto, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Baby, Meek Mill, Gherbo, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and lastly Young Jeezy.

After having her assistant take care of the first and middle acts and watching from afar. Kam turned her 4-wheeler on and headed towards the stage to take care of the remaining sets.

The first A-List artist to perform was Latto. Kam walked backstage and saw Latto and her team ready to start. Latto's Dj was already getting the crowd hype.

"Hi Lyssa" Kam walked up to Latto. Latto turned around and hugged Kam. "Hi Kammy" Latto said in a sweet voice.

"You ready?" Kam asked. Latto nodded her head. "Cool. Do ya thang girl!" Kam cheered as Latto walked confidently on stage.

As Latto closed her set with her last song, Kam called Jay to bring the next act, Moneybagg Yo.

After Moneybagg Yo performed. It was Meek Mill's turn then it was Gherbo.

"Meek follow the lady in the florescent vest please. She'll lead you to your trailer" Kam directed.

It was a short commercial break so the DJ took over the turntables and made sure the crowd was entertained. As Kam was making sure everything was running smoothly, she felt a few bodies move towards her.

"Yoo! Wassup lil sis" a very familiar voice greeted. She looked up from her clipboard and saw her dearest friend, Herb.

"Herb!" She threw her arms up in the air embracing him. "How are you?!" She said still hugging him.

Herb and Kam had been known each other since they met at her first retail job and had been running into each other ever since.

Kam loved him as an artist and as a dear friend. Not to mention, she'd been close to Taina since their college days.

"Where is Tai?" She asked looking around. "Oh man you know she feeding baby boy" he said.

"OhmGee... Essex is here?!" Kam said in her baby voice. She was so excited to see her nephew.

Herb chuckled, "Am I next?" He pointed towards the stage. Kam nodded.

"Bet" he said doing his backstage ritual before going out to perform. As the DJ was announcing Herb on stage Kam looked over her clipboard, sent text messages, and talked over her radio making sure everything was running smooth.

"Hey" a cool low tone voice spoke from behind her. She immediately turned around startled. To her surprise it was Meech.

She felt her body relax after she saw who he was. "Hi" she dryly responded. "What you doing here?" He asked eyeing her from head to toe but paying close attention to the backstage pass around her neck.

Before Kam could respond, he asked another question. "So you coordinate stuff like this?" He asked. Kam had no choice but to respond.

"Yes, I do" She kept it short. He nodded in approval. "So are you your own company? Or how that work?" He asked very much intrigued.

Kam let out a small sigh, "No. I work for the City of Atlanta. I coordinate these types of events because I am the director of event coordinating and marketing for the city."

Meech let out a small aaahh. "You a big dawg around here, huh?"

Kam looked at Meech confused on why he even let that comment slip out his mouth.

Kam only gave him a small smile and looked over at Herb who was on his second to last song. "KK to JJ" She spoke to the radio.

"JJ." Jay responded. "Prepare Lil Baby for his set. Let him know he's on in 10." She commanded.

Meech looked at her every move. She was definitely a top dawg. A boss. He liked that.

Kam looked back over at Meech who was damn near drooling from staring at Kam way to hard. Kam cleared her throat, "So, I don't have you on my list of performances...." She questioned. "Are you with someone? Did you get lost?..."

Meech chuckled at her last remark. "Nah. I didn't get lost. Atlanta my second home and I'm here with Herb" He responded.

Kam nodded. "Great. Well his set is over so please wait for him at the bottom of the steps. We need to make room for our next artist" She pointed at the stage steps.

Meech gave her a playful side smirk, "aight.. Kam." He said as he walked down the steps.

Kam shook her head. Kyra needed to get her boy-toy in check before she did.

After Herb's performance. She said goodbye and then proceeded to take care of her duties for the rest of the night.
