Thel looked over the rock,lifted his Plasma Rifle and shot,hitting a Kig-Yar sniper directly in the face,instantly killing him. He then ducked,just as a beam of bright,hot plasma passed over his head and fried the grass a few meters behind him.
The tactic that they were using worked. One of each warrior sprayed a volley of shots toward the enemy,and as soon as they were being shot at,went back into hiding. The enemy were too dumb to realizes what they were doing,and kept on shooting at one warrior time.
There weren't that many heretics to fights,so they could only shoot a certain amount of the warriors at once. Twenty three Elites,Unggoy and Kig-Yar against a few Jiralhanae and 5 Kig-Yar snipers (who were terrible shots).
Kura got notified by a Ghost driver that the Wraith was advancing and that a few of the Thruster Jiralhanae were about to drop down onto them.
It had gotten allot quiet as more of the snipers got killed by the soldiers (even though the Wraith shots were quite loud) ,and Kura could now talk to his men without using a dodgy mic.
"Energy Swords out!" He shouted. All but a few Elites put away their main weapon and took out a handle. Upon clicking the button on the handle a light blue blade like sword flared out. The length of the blade was over a meter long.
Some (mostly MK 4 Maroonn armored) Elites took out 2 smaller handles that had blades half the size of the regular Energy sword.
Kura ran behind the line of the Unggoy that hid behind trees and bought them together.
"I want you four to take out your Plasma launchers and Fuel Rod cannons. Run around the other side of the Canyon while we cover you and fire at the Wraith when the chance is given.Any questions?"
The Unggoy were a small species. They were the same size as Humans,but midgets compared to Elites. They were also relatively stupid and were incapable of following commands. But when it came to an Elite shouting orders in their faces in the middle of a firefight,they had no other choice but to follow those orders and do as they were told.
One of the Unggoy complained and asked why a Kig-Yar couldn't do the job.
Now,questioning a higher ranked officer in the middle of a firefight, that was allot taller,stronger and more powerful was a pathetic thing to do. But seeing as Kura needed all the warriors he could get, he told the Unggoy that he would make sure they would be safe,cause of their small size.
The Unggoy was slightly worried,but followed his orders and manned up.
Even though they were small creatures,the Unggoy ran fast,very fast. The 4 Unggoy sprinted out behind the destroyed trees and cracked boulders and towards the other side of the canyon.
Even though they were small,the Kig-Yar snipers could see them when they zoomed in on their weapons and began to fire at the moving targets.
Beams of light missed and passed the heads of the Unggoy as they ran for their lives,carrying their heavy weapons across the canyon floor,that was being burnt to a crisp by the hot white beams of light. The Unggoy jumped and ducked over boulders and behind destroyed trees to cover themselves from the sniper fire.
Kura and Thel both crouched up from behind the boulder,and fired an entire round each up at the snipers. Thel using his Plasma Rifle and Kura using his Needle Rifle.
The Kig-Yar had no idea what was going on. The first sniper got hit multiple times by the needle rifle,piercing it's skin and exploding as the fourth needle entered it's skin,destroying itself and anything in a radius of five meters in every direction,killing one other sniper.
The rest of Kuras needler rounds bounced off rocks or injured the targets.
When Thel emptied his round,he completely pulverized the rest of the Kig-Yar. Even though his rifle could just about see the targets,he only shot 5 plasma bullets,hitting each either in the neck or directly in the head.
As soon as they both stopped firing,Kura turned at Thel,amazed at the fact he was a good shot,but confuse on why he was an outcast and why because of his excellent shorting skills.
Just as they finished,Jiralhanae dropped from the ridge line above where the squad was stationed. The Elites were ready for their blades to taste blood (which hasn't happened for so long).
By now,there were allot of things happening in the firefight. Jiralhanae were fighting Elites. Both Elites and Jiralhanae were good at close quarters combat,but the Elites were allot quicker,and could move allot faster. While the Jiralhanae were larger and allot stronger then the Elites. Both species fell as the battle continued. The sound of the energy swords cutting through the skin of the enemy while the Jiralhanae used the knife side of a weapon called the Brute shot.
Another battle was going on as well. The remaining Unggoy,Kig-Yar and Ghosts all attacked the incoming Wraith Tank that bombarded the canyon with huge volleys of plasma.
The Unggoy slung their fuel rods and plasma launchers over onto their shoulders,waited a couple of seconds and dispensed their ammo towards the Wraith. The Ghosts and Kig-Yar all fired a volley of plasma grenades and bullets at the same time as the Unggoy fired their heavy weapons at the Wraith, completely destroying it. Smoke and fire was coming from where the main heavy cannon used to be and the sound of a screaming Jiralhanae coming from the drivers seat.
The firefight had gone on for over half an hour,with body's of Elites,Jiralhanae,Kig-Yar and Unggoy all scattered around the place.
Trees had been completely destroyed with splinters scattered across the floor and in bodies,rocks and boulders were stained with black burn marks that continued to sizzle even after the fighting had finished,and the grass continued to burn,slowly spreading across the floor.

The remainder of the squad walked around the the bodies,killing the rest of the Jiralhanae by stabbing them using their blades or shooting them in the head with plasma if there were any injured or attempting to escape.
Thel walked over to Kura who had just stabbed a Jiralhanae in the back of it's skull.
"What is the body count?"
Thel asked.
"15 Jiralhanae and Kig-Yar dead. Only a few of my own were killed or injured"
Answered Kura who was slightly worried.
"I'm starting to believe that these attacks are being ordered,and aren't out of the blue."
"What made you think that?" Thel looked over his shoulder and saw 3 Banshees,and 5 Ghosts come out of the entrance.
"More skulls to crush." A MK 4 Maroon Elite muttered in a deep voice under his breath
"We don't have enough warriors for this attack!" Kura shouted
"Pull back into the caves and shoot the entrance. We'll be caved in,but it's better to be in there then out here."
Without hesitation,the rest of Kuras soldiers ran into the cave,while Thel and Kura walked back slowly,shooting at the enemy to get their attention,and ran into the cave.
The grunts with the Plasma Cannons and Fuel Ross blew up the top part of the entrance,making boulders fall in and cave the warriors in,just in time as a Banshee Furl Rod hit into the boulders.
