The small talk between Sam and Y/N the night before had turned into a long one.
It consisted of Y/N filling in Sam about everything that had occurred since he had left Phoenix with his family, and how much mental torture it had put her through. She cried of course, and Sam even let a few tears fall.
Sam was never the one to cry, as much as Michael would love to call him a "sissy". But, he couldn't deny that he felt an enormous guilt for Y/N having to endure such trauma on her own. He wished he could tell her all of the crazy, supernatural things that had went on as well... but she obviously wasn't ready for that yet.
At one point, the Frog brothers came stomping back in, demanding practically that they go to sleep.
Y/N had made them a pallet on the floor, as Sam had insisted because, "You used to be like—the queen of putting pallets down!"
Alan couldn't have agreed more as a matter of fact, as he informed Y/N he had never been so comfortable sleeping on Sam's floor before. Edgar didn't really provide insight, as he was more worried about reading a comic book and falling asleep.
As everyone was getting comfortable, Sam looked over at Y/N,
"Say, Y/N... if you were at home right now and all this had happened... what do you think you would be doing?"
The question actually had taken the girl by surprise for a moment, as it was so random for the moment. But she turned to look at him from her bed, and he was already looking back at her. Alan was looking at her as well, seemingly waiting for an answer,
"Well... maybe like—smoking weed or trying to drink the whole situation away..."
Edgar rolled his eyes at the response, while Sam chuckled quietly,
"Oh yeah... I forgot! You're a stoner now!" Sam picked at her, referring to all of the crazy party stories she had told him about just 20 minutes before,
She rolled her eyes, "No I'm not... I actually think drugs are pretty dumb!"
"Don't let my parents hear you say that," Alan interjected, "They smoke weed more than they pay attention to us!"
Edgar nudged his brother, and the simply joke made Y/N furrow his eyebrows,
"That's literally child neglect, though..." Y/N informed him,
Edgar looked over at the girl slowly, narrowing his eyes, "Wow... what great insight."
"Shut up, Edgar. She doesn't know anything about you guys... so don't be an asshole!" Sam snapped at his best friend, and Edgar just huffed and adjusted his blanket.
Y/N snickered and looked up at the ceiling,
"Didn't you also do like—LSD and stuff?" Sam mentioned again, subconsciously intrigued by her party life,
Alan's eyes widened, and he looked over at Y/N, "You've actually done acid?"
Y/N huffed, "Thanks, Sam..." she muttered, earning a small apology from the boy. She cleared her throat, and sat up slightly, "If you two must know... yes... yes I have. And it wasn't necessarily fun."
"What did you see, though?" Alan asked again,
Y/N began to think back to the experience, as it was something she had honestly tried to suppress,
"I saw a bunch of shit... like—my hands had little tornadoes in them if that makes any sense!" she shared, making Sam chuckle, "It was fun for the first hour, and then it just got bad... I just started seeing really scary stuff..."
Y/N began to think about how the trip slowly became more like a nightmare. She remembered how Kenzie had to hold her until she stopped seeing all of the bad things she saw, and how she was breaking out into cold sweats.
"I wouldn't recommend doing it without a real reason..." Y/N finally broke the few moments of silence once again, feeling her skin break out in goosebumps,
"Do you need a reason to do acid?" Sam snickered, sitting up a bit more.
Y/N sighed and looked over at the boy, and she noticed how attentive Alan seemed,
"I mean—I guess not... but... I don't think it's a drug that's necessarily meant to be taken just to get trashed, you know?"
Alan furrowed his eyebrows at Sam, and Alan looked over at Sam with a confused look on his face. Y/N noticed the confused energy that spread throughout the room,
"I just mean—most of the time people take drugs for a reason. Like—cocaine! Rich white guys snort that stuff all the time so that they can keep up with their work! Weed? People smoke it constantly because it can help ease anxiety!"
"So why?" Edgar instantly asked when she finished,
"Why what?" she questioned him, making eye contact with the seemingly unimpressed boy,
"I mean... why? If there's a reason for why people take drugs... why did you take acid? Hm? What was your "reason" for it?"
Y/N could tell by Edgar's tone that he was being condescending. It seemed like he was out to try and make her look stupid, or maybe even prove her point to be incorrect.
Y/N cleared her throat awkwardly right before she began,
"Well—my friends were doing it... and my boyfriend—" she fell silent after she said that, but refused herself to get off track, "A person told me that taking acid could help me like—open my mind. It would help me become more self aware... and maybe I wouldn't be so oblivious anymore..."
Silence fell again amongst the teens after her response. No one really knew what to say, but especially Alan and Sam.
"Is your boyfriend some brain fried hippie or something?" Edgar finally shot back,
The question made Y/N's jaw clench, and she stared Edgar directly in the eyes,
"No! He's—he's not a hippie!"
Edgar closed his comic slowly as he chuckled quietly to himself,
"Then how did he manage to convince you that a drug was going to help you become more aware?"
"He—"
"The fact that you actually believed him and put your brain in danger just proves that you're an idiot... and drugs definitely won't solve that."
After Edgar said that, Y/N felt her chest ablaze. He barely even knew her. How dare he call her an idiot? She knew she could be quite impulsive at times, but Edgar knew almost nothing about her.
Sam seemed to notice how Edgar's words had affected her, because he rolled his eyes and huffed.
"Edgar—what is wrong with you?"
Y/N didn't want to be the cause of an argument, so she threw her hands up and laid down fully once more,
"It's fine, Sam. I'm going to bed."
Y/N turned her lamp off as she adjusted under her blanket, and Sam sighed as he adjusted in his bed as well.
Alan furrowed his eyebrows at his brother, and leaned in just a bit to where only Edgar could hear him,
"What the hell, man?"
