Somehow, even with the thousands of people prancing around outside on the boardwalk, the comic book store felt desolate. The lights flickered every now and then, signifying faulty wiring. Y/N would look up every now and then at it, just waiting for the flickering to stop.

She had spent the whole day with Sam and the Frog brothers at their store. She hadn't necessarily been miserable as she thought she would be, she would just get bored every now and then. She envied all of the people her age who would skip by in their small groups, laughing and chatting. It made her miss her friends... even if most of them were assholes.

Sam had attempted multiple times to force a comic book in her face, but she would decline every time. It's not that she had anything against comics, in fact, she had never even been opposed to them. They honestly just weren't her forte. She preferred real books.

Every so often, she would think about Flint. She thought about how pissed he would be if he knew she had been spending the past few days with nothing but guys. Especially Sam.

Flint had never liked Sam just as much as Sam didn't like him. He had always told Y/N how much of a nerd Sam was, and how he was glad that he moved so she could get away from his "weirdness".

But, who cares? He had cheated on Y/N once again. And this time, it was with her "best friend".

"You alright?"

The deep voice snapped Y/N out of her thoughts, and she looked over to see Alan with a box in his hands. She sent him a small, reassuring smile,

"All good... just a little bored..." she responded, watching as a couple walked out of the store.

Alan snickered a bit,

"Yeah... the store gets a little empty at night. I think the people of Santa Carla care more about beer kegs and music than they do comic books at this time of night!"

Y/N chuckled lightly at the boy's statement. Alan had been pretty nice to her since they had first met. Sure, he could be gloomy like his brother, and he was definitely an asshole to Sam. But, he was a lot sweeter than Edgar. Y/N actually felt pretty comfortable around him, even telling him a little bit about her and Sam's childhood together earlier in the day.

While on the other hand, Edgar and Y/N barely spoke a word to each other since they had arrived. Edgar would shoot her dirty looks, and she definitely returned them. She didn't understand why Edgar disliked her so much, but she honestly couldn't force herself to say more than two words to him to even find out.

"Hey..." Alan muttered, and she looked over at him fully, "I usually don't say this to people... because honestly I never really care to. But, I'm sorry that Edgar is being so rude to you."

He was speaking in a quiet tone, and that was saying a lot considering he was already pretty quiet.

"I mean, I usually don't deny the claim that me and my brother are dicks... but honestly... he's taking it to a whole new level with you."

Y/N shrugged her shoulders,

"I guess I don't really care... I guess I just wanna know why. Like—did I say something to him that I just forgot?"

It was Alan's turn to shrug, "Don't think so. And, he definitely hasn't told me any reason why."

Both of them looked over at Edgar for a moment, and Y/N smirked to herself as she had a realization,

"I have a theory..." she whispered to Alan, and he turned back to her, "Maybe I'm the only girl that he hasn't chased off in the first five minutes of them meeting. I might make him... uncomfortable..."
