Y/N's throat tightened. Senses of every kind were vibrating throughout her body, and she cleared her throat quietly. She adjusted her seat belt to see if would help with the tightened in her chest, which it didn't she should add.
The air that blew through on her face didn't smell all that great, but she could only assume it was from the ocean that had only god knows in it. She gulped, trying to relieve the car sickness, as it felt as her and her mom had been driving forever now.
But unfortunately, no amount of small movements could ease the tension in the girl's body. It was always like that for Y/N. She was always anxious in unfamiliar areas, with unfamiliar people. But she would be lying if she wasn't anxious in general.
"Lighten up, sweetheart! You're literally going to be at the beach the whole summer! Arizona doesn't have beaches like this! I mean... just look around!" her mom's cheery voice suddenly rang out, making her narrow her eyes at the woman.
Y/N took a deep breath before responding, "Yeah—but like—I hate sand..."
Her mom scoffed,
"Be thankful that I'm not sending you off with your father for the summer! Which, by the way... he was begging for!" Y/N's mom side eyed her daughter, noticing how the girl rolled her eyes at the statement. "He was not too happy about this whole—you going to California thing, you know?"
Y/N didn't respond, as she honestly couldn't care less about what her father did or didn't want for her.
"I'm not going to carry on too much about it... I'm just saying... maybe you should attempt to call him a couple times over the summer... just to let him know you're having fun..."
The woman looked over at her daughter fully, and sighed when she noticed the slight grimace on her face. She automatically adjusted in the driver's seat, gripping her hands a bit tighter on the steering wheel,
"Wonder how Sam looks? I bet he's gotten cuter..." she giggled, attempting to change the subject,
Y/N laughed and shook her head, "You act like it's been a decade since we've seen everyone!"
"Well... a lot can change in a year! I mean, you both started high school after he left, and this year you guys will be going into sophomore year! It's not entirely impossible that he's grown up a bit!" the woman instantly looked her daughter up and down after she finished speaking, "You sure have..."
"Thanks, mom..." Y/N curled her lip as she instinctively covered her thighs with the palm of her hands.
Y/N knew her mom didn't mean it in a bad way, it was just always awkward when her mother pointed out the fact that her body had changed so much during freshman year. It made her feel like she was being observed under a microscope, and she absolutely hated that feeling.
