The autumn months were closing in, a cold, nipping wind blew in the air and everyone was mostly staying inside with their radiators and blankets.
I thrived in this sort of weather.
But Jake didn't. He spent more time inside and I had to take more risks to see him.
I had my bag with my few items of clothing, my phone, charger etcetera, Jake's leather jacket on top of my hoodie, my cuddly star and the picture of my mum and my savings safe. All tucked away safe. I contemplated taking my makeup but Jake didn't like it when I wore it. I had decided on my lipstick and mascara.
I pulled the boards off of my window when my Dad opened up the bedroom door.
I was halfway out the window when he grabbed me by the only thing left that he could reach.
My long, long curly ponytail.
I felt something rip.
My heart skipped a beat.
I raised a shaking hand up to the back of my throbbing head.
It was gone.
My ponytail and a few layers of my skin was gone.
I looked at my bloody fingers as I stood on the lawn.
I looked at my Dad, no longer the loving man I looked up to, the man who would protect me from the monsters under my bed when I was a little girl all those years ago.
He held my no longer attached ponytail in his fist.
He dropped it and tried to reach out to me.
" No. Not this time. I've fallen for that trap too many times. I'M NOT YOUR LITTLE GIRL ANYMORE! " I screamed before I ran across the lawn to the pavement, my bag bumping into my thigh.
My mind was a mess and I could feel the slow trickle of blood dripping down my neck.
I needed to find Jake.
I just...needed Jake.
He'd be at home.
I tried to steady my shaking hands.
I noticed people were looking at me. Me and my bloody head and ugly, uneven hair.
I yanked my hood up and rubbed my cheeks dry.
I shakily dialled Jake's number, failing several times due to my wobbling fingers.
It went to his dumb answering machine twice.I was about to give up when he called me.
" J-Jake! You have to come...come g-get me. I-I'm sorry it's late...but...you're the only one left. " I sobbed, burying my head in my hands.
" Baby, baby, woah. Tell me where you are so I can come get you. " he said calmly.
" I'm on Old Dale Road. " I managed to get out.
" Okay. I'm on my way now. Stay where you are. " he said.
I waited and watched both ends of the street for Jake's motorbike.
It came roaring through the night, the light shining in a brilliant beam onto the tarmac.
My knight on shining steel and engine.
He knocked the kickstand down, hurrying towards me.
He kissed my cheeks gently and wiped my eyes.
I flinched when he held the back of my head to see my face.
" Sorry! Baby, what's the matter? Did I hurt you? " he asked.
