Toni woke up with messy hair and bags under her eyes like everyday. Her eyes were puffy, she'd been crying in her sleep again.
She yawned, stretching out her body, her bones clicking back into place after being cramped all night. She jumped out of the tree and landed on the soft sand.
She grinned a lept into the sea.
You see, Toni didn't want to steal, but she had too, she'd die if she didn't. She had no money and no way of making it, so she had to do what she had to do, but she made a way to give back to the community, even if it was small, or didn't really help, she did it anyway.
Everyday the young sireni would leap in the sea and collect as many trinkets or lost items as she could, but more importantly, she would also collect seashells and oysters!
She would then carry them all back to land and use the many baskets she'd stored up over the years to hold the various items she'd collected.
She called them 'treasure baskets'.
A few times she'd get something that she deemed as a 'big project' that she'd work on a little before handing out.
This time she'd managed to wrangle herself a entire door out of the reeds that she decided she'd use the wood to make some toys with. For the orphans.
They were her favourite people to gives gifts too, her being an orphan herself technically. When she was ten years old she found the orphanage and ever since she'd been going back to give them gifts.
Toni gently places the door against her tree and grabs a few baskets, she then went round to the back of the tree and dragged a rickety boat into the water from inside a crevasse of the tree. she gently dropped her treasure baskets into the vessel and stepped inside.
The grabbed the oars and started rowing the boat to land. Her muscles flexed. She may be a chunky girl, but she had some strength to her. She didn't take long to reach the edge of the beach and picked up all her baskets and started running up the hill to the orphanage at the far edge of the town.
As soon as she reach the black, falling apart gates, she was mobbed by a gaggle of young children.
"Ton ton!"
"Eyo Toni"
"Greetings Mooreland"
"Auntie ton ton"
"Towy"
"Hiya mama Toni,"
Toni chuckled and crouched down to cuddle the crowd.
"Hello sweethearts, did you miss me?"
A chorus and yes's started up.
"Oh really? And are you all excited to get a treasure basket?"
A even louder chorus of yes roared from the children.
She giggled softly, "alright, alright. Line up then littlins"
They all did so obediently, giggling and pushing each other.
Toni gave every single child a treasure basket, delighted by their squeals of joy at them.
Once she'd handed them all out she stated, "now I best be going, sweethearts"
The symphony of children screamed at her to stay.
"No chicks, I've got to go, " she rubbed the back of her head.
It didn't take much convincing until she'd ended up staying for an hour or two playing with the orphan children.
Eventually though, she'd managed to escape the loving mass of orphans and started legging it down to her boat, but this time she didn't get into it. She dragged it along as she swam and pulled into onto the island, unintentionally making no noise at all.
She started walking round her tree when she noticed someone else on the island, she hid behind her tree before she was spotted or before she could register the persons looks.
She poked her head round her tree, examining the stranger. Her pitch black eyes seemed to light up with a thousand stars at the sight of them.
They had never seen anyone so beautiful before, was this what angels looked like? Toni felt like her heart was turning to butter and she couldn't help but thinking... was this the person who would make them not feel alone anymore?
Hey guys, tonee here again. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. I felt it was important to address Toni's... issue with stealing. And I did promise you that the next chapter would be fluffy didn't I? ^^
