[Y/n] felt all tension she's been holding leave her in a strong sigh as soon as she heard the door click shut behind the men. She knew Viktor and Jayce - of course she knew them - how couldn't she? Ever since HexTech became a subject of discussion in the Academy and in all Piltover, their names were written in every news report and article in the city. Even if one were totally oblivious to the press, those two and their new technology was a common subject in the mouth of the citizens. Especially the ones in the Academy.
She just didn't know their faces.
She corrected herself. It's not exactly like she didn't know their faces - there were pictures of them everywhere as well. If someone were to show her a photo of some people and ask who Jayce and Viktor were, her subconscious would probably kick in and she'd recognize them. But their names and their faces seemed to be completely detached pieces of information in her conscious mind.
She sighed again scratching the back of her neck while looking around the room. Despite being glad she could assist the scientists, she couldn't help but worry about lending away her precious material - especially one of her project concepts.
"It's ok, they said they'd be careful." She tried assuring herself, walking over to a blackboard on one of the walls attached to the only spot that wasn't covered in parchment papers. She wrote down the name of each item the men took with them, as well as the date, time and their names on the bottom of the list. This at least made her feel she had control over her own things.
Don't worry, Miss [y/n]. You clearly care a lot about your work.
She recalled Viktor's words. He was right, she did care a lot about her work. How couldn't she? Every piece of information she had put together about the Undercity lived solemnly on her notes. Despite her efforts, she still hadn't been able to get her research published - all of the big academic patrons focused more on works regarding the Topside. If anything happened to any of these parchment papers rolled out everywhere in her office, she'd have to start again from scratch.
"And all by myself too."
Her mind wandered back at the exchange she just had with Viktor and Jayce. The schedule for this morning was finishing updating the Undercity model with the information gathered on her last bi-monthly visit to the Lanes. Normally it was a tedious job, so she put up some music to keep her company. Not in a million years she expected to have guests over, so her attention was absolutely off from noises on the door.
She chuckled at the thought of how each man reacted to her office. Jayce's eyes darted directly at her without missing a beat, trying to get straight to the point. Not a new reaction to her book, whenever anyone knocked on her door it was to get something they needed. Viktor, on the other hand...
She's never seen someone enter her den and be so mesmerized by it. She watched as his eyes scanned the walls meticulously, finally landing on the Undercity model in the center of the room. The way he approached the model, as if he was being pulled in by its force, was so full of wonderment... So very child-like.
His demeanor contrasted greatly with his outward appearance, she thought to herself. Tall, slender and... Handsome. That sharp long face adorned with those amber orbs and that thick wavy chestnut hair framing it all so perfectly...
She shook her head frenetically, scolding herself. 'Get yourself back together, you weird touch-starved gremlin.' She had no time to think about these carnal desires. Especially now.
"Maybe it's a good thing the HexTech team has their attention on the UDS."
With them, came their patrons and their gargantuar influx of funds. Maybe it's the chance she's been waiting for, maybe the UDS has a small glimmer of hope. Maybe her work will finally amount to something.
