Chapter Ten

"Which team are we rooting for?"

I looked over at Kenzie with a dull look, "The blue team."

"But I thought our school colors were green and white?" She responded, looking confused.

"No."

She simply shrugged at my one word response and returned her attention to the game. It was less than 5 minutes into the game and nothing too exciting had happened yet.

"Did we score a goal yet?" Kenzie inquired, "Or did the ball not go into the net?"

"It missed," I replied, only turning to look at her for a minute, "Are you paying attention?"

"Yes!" She exclaimed, "It's not like I'm an expert or anything."

"Haven't you attended plenty of games with two of your siblings playing?" I asked her, not understanding why she seemed so clueless to what was happening.

"Yeah, but the people playing weren't cute boys in high school," she muttered under her breath, her eyes glued on the field.

I smiled slightly and returned my attention to the book on my lap.

"Do you ever stop reading?" Kenzie asked, only taking her eyes off the field for a brief second, "I mean like seriously Olive, are you unaware of the hott guys running around on that field down there looking extremely good?"

She made a noise of appreciation and sighed, "I don't know how you could be focused on anything else? How have I never came to a high school soccer game before? I am such an idiot! I could have had 2 extra years of this! Even more if I had started coming before then..."

I could mentally picture her mouth wide open. I glanced over to see if my mental picture matched the actual one, and, sure enough, it did. I opened my mouth to respond when she suddenly squealed and hit me, "Oh my gosh! Where is the nearest college?"

"I don't know," I responded, rubbing the spot where she hit me and sending an annoyed look in her direction, "How did we go from cute guys to your education?"

"I'm still talking about boys, silly! What made you think I was talking about my education?"

"Oh, I don't know," I responded sarcastically, "Maybe the questioning about a place that people attend to further their education and is meant for that purpose."

"I don't care about any of that." She replied and rolled her eyes, "I am talking about college boys. College. Way hotter than high school boys. If these guys look hott the ones in college are going to cause us to melt instantly!" Her eyes began turning, filled with excitement as she continued to ramble on, "Screw high school boys! We need to start scouring college campuses like ASAP!"

I rolled my eyes and didn't bother responding, just letting her trail on with her thought, knowing that informing her that looking at boys was not the reason for going to a college and spending all her spare time chasing after boys was a waste of time wouldn't have much of an impact on her.

"Do you realize how amazing of a plan this is!?!" She exclaimed loudly, grabbing my arm and pulling my attention towards her again, "I am a genius!"

Cue the goal from our team and the immense applause breaking out so Kenzie didn't look like a complete idiot for randomly standing up and screaming.

"Okay, genius, why don't you sit down and stop yelling so you don't go back to looking like the opposite?"

"Fine," she grumbled and dropped back down into her seat, crossing her arms, "I wish you'd be nicer to me and start taking me seriously."

"When you have something actually worthwhile to suggest I will," I informed her.
