Chapter One
10 years later...
"Yo Olive!"
I glanced over my shoulder to see my one and only friend, Colton, coming down the hall towards me. I was grabbing a couple books and then would be heading down the hall to my first class of the new school year.
"I miss summer and sleep," he muttered and leaned against my back, causing me to stumble slightly at first. I smiled but nudged him off after a second. I glanced up at the clock and shut my locker before hurrying down the hall.
"No hello for the best friend?" he asked jogging to catch up with me.
I rolled my eyes and continued to ignore him.
He chuckled and smirked down at me, "Okay then. I'm walking you to class then."
My eyes widened and I opened my mouth quickly.
"Colt no-"but before I could finish my sentence he'd grabbed me and was rushing down the hall. "Colton I swear if you-"
"If I tell everyone about how much I love you, you'll love me even more?"
I scowled tried to pull my wrist out of his, but his grip tightened making me wince.
He stopped when he noticed the expression on my face. "Did I hurt you?" he asked worriedly and went to pull up my sleeve.
I pushed his hand away before he could though and laughed nervously, "No. It's just been bothering me a bit lately."
He seemed somewhat satisfied with my answer and smirked down at me, "We're here."
A horrified expression made its way onto my face, "Colton no, please don't-"
"Hello ladies," he called out to everyone and pulled me into the classroom. He flashed a charming smile to the teacher, "Hope she's not late."
The teacher smiled slightly, "Just on time."
"Well I'd love to stay but I'd better get to class. Just had to walk the most beautiful girl in the world to class," he said and grinned down at me. I kept my eyes on the ground but felt my face reddening.
I tried to get past him before he could embarrass me anymore, but of course I didn't get my way. He pulled me back and kissed my cheek softly.
"Better be nicer next time," he whispered in my ear and then pulled back a bit and said loudly enough for everyone to hear "See you later beautiful."
I made my way to my seat, my cheeks flaming. "Slut", "Whore", "Lucky", and "B*tch" were what I was hearing as I made my way to the back. I hated when he put on a huge show like that. At least he'd broken up with Becky so I wouldn't get crap from her for it anymore. That's what I got though for him being dubbed the 'hottest guy in school'. For some reason back when I was in first grade he, the popular guy, decided to make me, the invisible girl, his best friend. I still didn't understand why to this day.
Their attention went back to their phones after a minute. The only time I wasn't invisible was when Colton was around. Then people noticed me. But the second he was gone I was instantly forgotten again. I was fine with that though; I didn't want it in the first place.
Thankfully since it was the first day nothing was very difficult, just mainly an introduction to what we would be doing this year. I grabbed my stuff and hurried to the next class. By the time it hit lunch, I was feeling even more tired than I was this morning. It had been noisy last night, so I didn't get much sleep. That and being on edge of whether or not the lock would hold the door shut.
