Alright so here's the prologue. First chapter will probably be up either tomorrow or on Sunday. Depends on how my weekend ends up turning out (: With that being said, this school year so far is completely chaotic and I'm not sure how much time I'm going to have to be writing. Uploads might not be happening very often. I'll try to be uploading every other week but no promises. Anyways, thanks for checking this out and be sure to let me know what you think (:

Prologue

I’d always been invisible. Despite my bright reddish-orange hair, people never seemed to take a second look at me. I was always the one who sat in the back, the one who was silent. I didn’t mind being alone and having things quiet though. It was nice to have things different than they were at home.

One day though, when I was about 6, I was sitting in the park under a tree reading a book. Ever since I’d learned how to read, I couldn’t stop. A boy who’d I seen around at school a few times approached me. He had normal brown hair, unlike me, and pretty dark blue eyes, instead of unique olive green eyes like mine. I’d never talked to him before though; he always was surrounded by a bunch of his 7 year old friends.

“How come you never talk?” he asked me. I peeked at him slightly over my book. My eyes shot back down though after a second. I heard his footsteps coming closer and then he plopped down next to me, “What are you reading?”

I glanced over at him again, and moved the front cover forward so he could see it, then I set my book back down how it was before and continued reading it. He laughed and shook his head, “Aren’t you going to talk?”

I shook my head and wondered why he would be talking to me. Was he here to make fun of me or tease me? I quickly shook that thought out of my head though. I’d never seen him be mean to anyone, in fact, several times I’d seen him stick up for other kids. Could he maybe be over here just because he wanted to talk to me?

“Well I figured I’ve never seen you talking to anyone before so you must not got any friends,” he said and looked down at me, “Do you?”  I shook my head and he frowned, “That must not be much fun. Who are you gonna invite to your birthday parties if you don’t have friends?”

I shrugged and looked away slightly embarrassed.

He put his arm over my shoulder and I glanced up at him again. He smiled, “Well I guess I’d better be your friend then. That way you won’t be all alone.”

I looked away and wasn’t sure of whether or not I should say anything. Did I tell him I didn’t want him as a friend? Not that I didn’t, I just didn’t want to have to explain things to people anymore than I had to. It’d be nice to have a friend though, someone I could sit with and play with at school.

“Well if you want to be friends, you at least have to tell me your name. My big sister says you have to know your friends name, favorite color, favorite ice cream flavor, their birthday-“ he went on listing all sorts of things, and I glanced up at him again. Could it really hurt to just agree to be his friend? It wasn’t like I’d be agreeing to constantly be with him or something.

“Colton!” a girl across the park called out and beckoned for him to come to her. He glanced down at me and smiled again, “That’s me.”

He stood up then and brushed his pants off, before holding out his hands and raising an eyebrow, “So?”

I gulped and looked into his blue eyes for a moment.

“Olive,” I whispered and quickly looked back at my book.

I heard him running off then, and couldn’t help but glance up again. He ran over to the girl who’d been calling for him and tugged on her shirt. Then he said something before pointing in my direction. I looked down embarrassed and hoped he wouldn’t bring her over.

“Bye Olive!” Colton called out and a smile made its way onto my face.

‘A friend’ I thought ‘I hope he doesn’t think that means I’m going to spend all my time with him.’
