The halls of the Academy smelt of fresh paint. For it being founded in the late 1800s it still had a good touch to it. The inside seemed to be recently remodeled though. The tiles of the floor were nice and shiny, and had no signs of any scuffs on the floor. The walls were painted white and had dark brown wood borders that outlined the inner corners of the ceilings and walls. With upright mini chandeliers that stood on the ceiling giving the hallway a warm touch.
"You have pretty good classes, I know the teachers well and I don't think they are gonna give you a hard time." Avery spoke, turning her head to me as she walked beside me leading me to my first class.
Everybody seemed to be already in their first period, but I got an exception for obviously being new. So did Avery for touring me.
"I don't get bothered by teachers much anyways." Avery hummed in response.
"You should come sit with me and my friends, it'll be a good chance for you to meet people, yeah?" I had totally forgotten about the fact I had no friends. I mean, I was used to it. I only had Deja, and even then she wasn't always around, so I was mainly spending time with myself. And it has never really bothered me, but I figured since I was in a new school, which means a new fresh start, I could somehow expand my options and try not to be so close minded.
"Sure, that'd be nice." I replied, adding a smile. She looked at me, satisfied and kept on walking.
She stopped once we got to room 204, which was Trigonometry with Mr.Wagner.
"Here, your first period. We can talk more during lunch."
"That is if you'll be coming." She added, uncertain.
"I will, I should get going.'' I said looking into the classroom through the small window that was plastered in the center of the door.
"Yeah, see you then." she replied and turned her back towards me as she made her way down the hallway. I took a deep breath and turned the door handle, opened it and entered the class room.
Heads immediately turnt to me as confused faces filled the classroom, including Mr.Wagner. Soon enough his face lit up to realization and immediately spoke out.
"Ah students! I forgot to mention we have a new student," He looked at me waiting for a name.
"Imani." I blatantly replied. I wasn't a fan of all the eyes on me and being the center of attention. God can this just end already.
"Imani, welcome to trigonometry." He responded by pushing up his geometric glasses that were clearly way too big for his face.
He walked over behind his teacher's desk and flipped through several pages of something that looked like a binder. He proceeded to look at the rest of the other students sitting at their desk and back at the binder.
"Okay, I'm gonna have you take a seat next to Mr. Evans." I automatically assumed it was the one boy without anyone sitting next to him. Eyes still on me, I walked to the back of the classroom and turnt my way down to the third row of seats.
Whispers filled the room, followed by snickers. I wanted to disappear. I kept my head down and quietly took a seat next to the boy whom I only knew of his last name. Evans.
I liked to believe I was necessarily confident, but at this moment, that really couldn't be backed up.
I bent down to the right of me to grab a pencil and an empty notebook out of my backpack. I looked around me to see everybody following along with the lesson plan as the teacher didn't stop to catch me up on anything. Mr.Warner stood in front of the board projecting his nasally voice.
