Voices. Someone was heading his way. He growled lowly in annoyance. These humans, how dare they interrupt his meal.

What... What's that God awful smell?! Those buffoons! I'm gonna have their heads if they were just sitting around not cleaning!

He retracted into the shadows. It didn't matter. He would kill these humans as well. They were, after all, his prey. Their presence simply meant more sustenance for him. He caught sight of one of his victims. The bloody sight made his stomach cramp in hunger.

More. He needed more.

He had already feasted on the carcasses of his prey, but it was not enough to sate his hunger. He needed more than what he already had.

Lucky for him, more of these humans whose flesh he so craved had walked right into his territory.

He moved quickly when he noticed one of them, the woman, move towards the severed body of his victim. He grabbed onto the body and pulled it back into the shadows so he could store it and finish it up once he was done capturing his newest prey.

The woman let out a shriek when he pulled the body back into the shadows. Turning on her feet, she began to run towards the exit but he had no intention of letting her escape. He had no intention of letting anyone escape.

He moved in the shadows at great speed, crawling on the roof above her where she could not see him pursue her. Just as she was about to escape, just when she reached her companion who had barely registered the threat he posed to them, he jumped down from the roof.

He landed on the woman, pinning her to the ground, no doubt breaking a few bones. The man was startled for a few seconds as he tried to digest all that was happening around him.

Too slow, he thought, as he moved in lightning speed to attack him.

He punched through the man's solar plexus whilst the woman looked on. Her screams were like an addictive drug that urged him on as they echoed in the large basement as she watched him rip her companion apart.

The man's head flew a few feet into the air before it landed back on the ground with a cloud thump. It rolled next to her, leaving a bloody trail behind it.

The woman tried to back away. It was as if she was trying to will herself to disappear.

Something about that sight was exhilarating. Maybe it was the predator in him that was enjoying the hunt, savoring the fear it saw in the eyes of his prey.

In a flash, he was on top of her his teeth tearing into her flesh as she screamed out in agony.

With a deep breath, Emilia pushed her microscope away from her. It had been two days now as she was trying to figure out what was wrong with Alex. Two wasted days that wielded no results.

What am I missing?

Catching a glimpse of her watch, she sat up straight as she remembered that she had to face chat with her son and cousin. It was hard to imagine it had only been four days since she last saw them. Even if she had been face chatting with them, she still missed them. Especially her sweet little Jesse.

The two came into the camera exactly at six o'clock.

"My darlings. How are you doing today." She greeted them cheerfully.

"Hey cuz," Tia replied whilst trying to restrain the vibrant toddler in her hands.

"Momma!" He called out excitedly to her.

"My baby! How's momma's sweet boy?" She asked. Her heart warmed every time she saw his angelic face.

"This one is quite energetic and a bit of a hothead. Wonder where he gets it from." Tia said with a roll of her eyes.

"Now, now. You haven't been giving him much sugar have you?" Emilia asked with a grin.

"Well... That's classified." Tia began, rubbing the back of her neck nervously as was her habit when she had been caught red-handed.

"Tia! What were you thinking?" Emilia asked in annoyed voice before she shook her head in disbelief. "You know what, you deserve whatever trouble he gives you. Anyways, I'm glad you're both doing good."

"How's the job? Must be great working with some of the world's most brilliant minds in both science and medicine." Tia asked.

Although Emilia knew that her cousin couldn't care less about her work, that she found it quite confusing, she still entertained her inquisition.

"Depends on the mind." She said. "Some of them are great, some are complete douchebags."

"I'm betting this is one individual in particular." Tia said with a knowing smile.

"I don't know, Tia. It's like I'm excited and all about being assigned to a new project and that's why I readily accepted it since it will give a boost to my work experience. But I can't help but feel like things went so wrong the moment I met the person behind the idea of this project." She replied with a sigh.

"Let me guess, this is the douchebag?" Tia asked with a chuckle.

"He's a self centered, narcissistic jerk who thinks he knows it all and the rest of us know nothing at all." Emilia said in frustration. "And I can't help but think his attitude will be very costly."

"Something not going well?" Tia asked.

"More like something not adding up... " Emilia said thoughtfully, she was casually looking at her slides when she saw a flash of something. "I just thought of something, I have to go now. Bye bye my loves."

"Bye bye momma." Little Jesse called out.

"Sweet dreams angel." Emilia replied, blowing him a kiss.

They bid her goodnight before logging off the chat. She immediately turned back to her microscope. She didn't know if it had been a mere illusion. Heck, maybe she was in over her head and seeing things.

Except she wasn't seeing things. Just as she was about to push the microscope away again, she saw the bright flash of microscopic movement within the sample. It was like a black spot, like a fungi, moving and disappearing into the red blood cells.

"What the heck?" she exclaimed.

The spot disappeared again but she was certain she had seen it. It was no illusion.
