The two finally reached the waterfront cafe. It was surprisingly quiet. The cafe had chairs laid out on the wide boardwalk that belong to the cafe, although tourists could sit on the boardwalk watching the waves crash. There was a bar that served the finest wine in Nueva Vista. The tables had two small candles on top of a silk, white tablecloth. Mateo and Carla sat down at a table for two. At this kind of restaurant the waiter came to your table.
A blonde girl with brown highlights approached their table with a smile. "Welcome! What can I get for you tonight?" she asked sweetly. Mateo smiled.
He looked at Carla. "What'll you have?" he asked. Carla thought for a moment.
"I'll have a tequila sunrise, please." The waiter scribbled the order on her notepad. She looked at Mateo. "And for you?" she asked.
"I'll take a Michelada." he said. The waiter smiled and finished jotting down the orders. "Okay, I'll be back soon!" she dashed off to the bar.
Mateo laughed a little. Carla cocked her head. "What?" she asked. Mateo stopped laughing and shrugged. "I didn't know you drank tequila." he remarked. Carla grinned.
"I've never told you." she replied playfully. Carla looked out at the sunset over the beach. "Man, have you ever seen something that pretty?" she remarked. Mateo grinned.
"Almost." he replied.
The waiter came back with the drinks. "Thanks." Mateo said. The waiter smiled. "No problem. I'll come back later." she assured. Mateo nodded.
"Great." he replied. The two sipped their drinks and talked about the coronation more. Suddenly a guitar slowly started strumming.
Mateo turned around to find a man and a girl with brown hair in front of a microphone.
The man started to sing first:
You come over when your wine's all gone
Always catch me when I'm not that strong
Then you wind up staying all night long
Ain't nothin' new
Then I wake up with you on my chest
You got a way of making me forget
Girl, with you the answer's always yes
Every time you call
Mateo felt kind of awkward. A romantic song playing, yet this was just a friendly date! He didn't even want to look at Carla, knowing that she'd be disappointed. He looked back at the man and woman reluctantly.
They both were singing now:
But I know, yeah I know it's a matter of time
'Til you walk, 'til you walk back out of my life
Leave me standing here lonely, feeling like a fool
Every time, every time you say we're done
You come back to the love you were running from
Don't know why, don't know why I let you, but I do
Guess I love chasing after you, mm, mm, yeah
Mateo gulped. He felt like he related to those lyrics. He shot a quick glance at Carla, who had her eyes close while she sipped her drink. Mateo smiled.
Now the woman was singing:
Listen
Wish I could quit you, but it feels too good
If I could turn it off, you know I would
But somethin' 'bout you makes me think we could
Make it after all
Carla frowned. She felt that way about Mateo. She loved him, yes but did he love her? Probably not. He just took her out on a date because he was forced to. She just had to accept that.
The man and woman started to sing the chorus again.
But I know, yeah I know it's a matter of time
'Til you walk, 'til you walk back out of my life
Leave me standing here lonely, feeling like a fool
Every time, every time you say we're done
You come back to the love you were running from
Don't know why, don't know why I let you, but I do
Guess I love chasing after you
