3RD POV

Mateo brushed a strand of hair from Carla's face.

Carla closed her eyes and opened them again.  "I know I love you, Mateo.  That's a fact."

She wrapped her arms around Mateo's neck and they both leaned in and kissed each other.

After for what seemed like hours, they pulled away and smiled.

"You're not a bad kisser." Mateo admitted.  Carla smirked.  "Neither are you." she grabbed Mateo's hand.

Mateo and Carla both got up from the dock.  "Let's go find Luna.  It's getting late and I need to take you back home." Mateo offered.  Carla nodded.  "Great, I'm kind of tired too." she yawned.

They both walked back to where Luna was.  Mateo assumed she'd be sleeping, and she was.

"Luna!" Mateo yelled.  Luna jumped up.  "Oh, yall are back!  Did you have fun?" she asked.

Carla smiled. "I'll say." she bent down and whispered in Luna's ear.  "We kissed!"

Luna gasped.  "Oh my gosh!  How come I missed that?!" she laughed. "Hop on!" she exclaimed.

Carla and Mato both hopped on Luna with big smiles on their faces.  As they flew through the sky, Luna piped up.

"Where do yall wanna go?" she asked with curiosity.

"Um, the Via Mercado.  We wanted to take a walk too." Mateo replied.  Carla squeezed Mateo tightly.  Luna smiled and twirled a little in the air.  "Alrighty!" she landed in front of the big water fountain.

Carla and Mateo hopped off.  "Thanks Luna." Carla said as she hugged Luna.  Luna smiled. "Aww, no problem hon!"

Mateo and Carla walked arm in arm into a fancy Avaloran restaurant for something light to eat.

When they first walked in they couldn't believe who they saw.

Carla's mother and Esteban sitting at the same table holding hands.  Carla gasped and immediately ran out of the restaurant.  Mateo ran after her.

"I can't believe her!" Carla gasped between tears.  Mateo put his arm around her.  "It's okay.  They're just... talking?" he assured.  Carla frowned.

"Please!  I bet they're drunk and kissing by now!" she exclaimed.   Mateo sighed.  "You know that's not what they're doing.  Let's just go to Nunez and Son." he suggested.  Carla nodded sadly.

She wiped her eyes.  "Okay, let's go." she agreed.  They walked quickly to the bakery.

Gabe's mother greeted them warmly.  "Hello Mateo!  Is this your girlfriend?" she asked.

Mateo looked at Carla uncertainly.  Carla nodded happily.  Mateo grinned.  "Yep.  Do you have any, um what do you want, Carla?" he asked.

Carla stared at all the desserts and bread.  "Hmm, I'll have a Cocada." she told the woman.  Gabe's mother smiled.  "And for you?" she asked Mateo.  Mateo put his arm around Carla lovingly.

"The same." he smiled.  Gabe's mother sighed dreamily.  "You two remind me of Gabe and Queen Elena!" she exclaimed as she placed the baked goods on a plate and handed it to them.

Mateo nodded.  "Yes, ma'am.  Thank you." he placed five gold coins on the counter.  "Come again!" the woman called.

Mateo and Carla decided to head back home.  Luna gladly took them.

In front of the door Carla thanked Mateo for the wonderful night.  "Thank you, Mateo." she kissed him.  "I'll never forget this." she shut the door behind her.

Mateo sighed.  "She's amazing..." he walked back to Luna slowly.

Inside, Carla found her mother sitting in a chair reading a book, yet she was in her good dress.

"Um, mama- (couldn't add the accent mark), why do you have your good dress on?" Carla asked.  Aashna smiled.  "Oh, hi dear.  I went out on a date." she explained.

Carla frowned.  "With who?" she asked.  Aashna laughed.  "What is this, twenty questions? I went out with Esteban.  You know him." she said.  Carla looked horrified. "Why would you do that?!" she exclaimed.

Aashna frowned.  "Mija, I can do what I want now.  The only reason I married your father is because I was forced to!  It wasn't love.  Now Esteban, was and still may be love!  You'll just have to accept that-" she began.

Carla stomped her foot.  "No, are you serious?" she argued.  Aashna rubbed her temples. "Dear, I'm very tired.  I think I'll go to bed." she headed off to the bedroom.  Carla glared at her mother and threw herself in the chair.

"She can't marry that man..."

The next morning Elena had realized Esteban never check in with her last night.  She wondered if he was in his room, so the only way to find out was to knock on the door.  After breakfast she wandered over to Esteban's room.  She knocked three times.

"Come in." A voice called.

Elena slowly opened the door to find her cousin sitting on the edge of his bed, clearly lost in thought.  It was strange to find his curtains closed.  Esteban always opened them when he got up and closed them when he went to bed.  Elena walked over to the bed.

"Hey, Esteban.  Why didn't you check in with me last night?" She asked as she sat down next to Esteban.  Esteban sighed.

"Must I tell you every thing I do, prima?" he retorted.  Elena laughed.

"Look, I just want everyone to be safe.  Don't you understand?" she asked.  Esteban nodded reluctantly.

"So, how did the date go?" Elena asked eagerly as Esteban walked over to open the curtains.

"Very well.  I cannot believe that woman after all these years..." he mumbled.  Elena giggled.

She swung her feet back and forth, trying to decide what to ask next.   She cleared her throat and gulped.

"Did you um, see Mateo and Carla anywhere?" she ventured.  Esteban groaned.  He turned around to face Elena.

"No, I did not see that wizard, nor the malvaga." he replied, rather annoyed at the thought of them.  Elena frowned.  "What's wrong, Esteban?" she asked with a smirk.

Esteban walked over to his wardrobe.  "I don't know what you mean by asking that, Elena." he replied primly.

Elena laughed.  "You do!  Are you mad at Carla because you could wind up being her father?" she accused.  Esteban dropped the hanger he was holding.

"Elena!  How could you say a thing like that?  I wouldn't betray Victor like that-" he began.  Elena frowned.

"They separated, so it's not exactly betraying him!" she argued.  Esteban turned around again.

"Listen, prima. After all these years it's far too late for marriage.  Which is why I do not wish to discuss this any further.  Now goodbye." he ranted.  Elena looked hurt, but managed to leave without another argument.  She sighed and decided to forget it all.
