Aarya noticed that there were more guards around the royal palace and the royal court than usual. Seeing the uniforms, she realized that they were the English sepoys. Everything had changed so fast, it didn't feel the same anymore. She didn't know what she was feeling. Was it anger, worry, confusion or fear?
She needed some space and so, she went to the first place she could think of, the garden.
She was walking towards the garden when she saw a silhouette, clearly proving that she wasn't alone and so, she decided to return to her room. However, the clinking of her anklets gave it away and the man turned around. It was Harry. He flashed a quick smile and Aarya noticed that he had dimples. He was truly charming. Seeing that she was about to return, Harry quickly said,
"You can stay if you like, I'll be returning to my room".
"No it's alright, you were here first and also, I could really use some sort of company." Aarya said. It was true, she really did need to talk to someone.
"I'm Harry Styles." he said extending his right hand for a handshake.
"And I'm-" before she could finish, Harry added
"Princess Aarya of Darbhanga. I know," giving another smile.
Aarya was thinking why was he smiling so much or does he just have a very sunny disposition.
"Umm I just wanted to say this, I'm so sorry for whatever my uncle does. I really don't condone his actions but I just have to or else," he sighed, not finishing the sentence.
"I understand" Aarya said, trying to be comforting but still maintaining her distance.
"I don't think you do" Harry said, trying his best to not sound rude because he didn't mean it in that way.
"I think I'll be taking your leave now." and he left.
Aarya stood there completely confused as to the conversation they just had. She didn't really know how to react to it. Maybe he didn't want to talk to her? But wasn't he the one who asked her to stay? She didn't overthink the situation and returned to her room. Well, that was awkward.
As the guests were settling down at the palace which would be their house for a few months, Aarya went back to her room. She was bored and needed something to keep her occupied. She thought of going horse riding but decided against it. The only thing that came to her mind was going to the place she loved the most in the kingdom. The chowk (plaza). There were so many people there. From food stalls to textile stores, the chowk had it all. People often questioned as to why a princess would buy clothes from there and she would always say that it was because it costed her less than royal designers. Even though she belonged to the royal family, she felt that wasting so much money on clothes to be worn at home was useless. Better to buy it cheap than buy the same thing 2 times the price, right?
