Glancing down from over my shoulder, I saw her brown eyes staring into mine. Her dark hair was tied up in a bun, and it smelled like...coffee.

"Sorry, I didn't see you," she said, when really that should have been my line. After I realized I had forgotten my bookmark in Extinguishing the Flames, I ran to the bookcase, where I knew the book would be. I never thought I'd run into anyone, let alone Kaylee Chen.

Her hand gestured to the book we both reached for at the same time. "You can borrow it first," Kaylee said, a hint of a smile on her face. Subconsciously, my hands went up to readjust my glasses, before I grabbed the book. "Thanks, but I read it already," I reassured her. "I just needed to get this back." Flipping through the pages of the book, I found what I came for, my bookmark.

As my fingers grazed the soft, rectangular cardstock, I couldn't help but feel relieved. The familiar words and numbers in black ink held a special place in my heart more than I'd like to admit out loud.

"Must have been important," I heard Kaylee say, her voice full of warmth and understanding that I just naturally confirmed her statement. "Yeah, it is," I said, tucking it away in the back pocket of my jeans. For something so important though, a part of me was a bit glad that I had almost lost it.

Even though we've shared several classes together, this was the first time we had met and actually spoken to each other, and I hoped this wouldn't be the last.

With a glance at the book in my hand, I was reminded why we were both standing here in the first place. "Here," I said, offering her the final book to the HEART & DRAGONS trilogy. "Thanks," Kaylee replied, an eagerness apparent in her voice, as she stepped forward.

Without any rhyme or reason, I pulled the book back though, so she couldn't get it. Shock and confusion flashed in her eyes, making me immediately regret my actions, but then, she laughed. "Did you forget something else in there?" The teasing tone in her voice calming the beat of my racing heart.

Relieved she wasn't offended by my knee-jerk reaction, I answered, "No, but...I don't think you should read it."

Kaylee laughed again, taking a step forward. Her eyes, gazing up at me, were filled with curiosity. "And why not?" she inquired, the distance between us much smaller than before.

My heart racing again, I confessed, "I don't think you'll like how it ends."

Surprise! And Happy International Women's Day! I only felt that it was fair for Elliot to have his 500 words or less of their meet-cute. It took me awhile to discover his voice, but I found it!

I already have a little story in my head for Kaylee and Elliot, so I hope you can stick around and wait for it to come out. I don't have a schedule for their story, so the updates will be sporadic, but it will get done by the end of the year, I hope! XD Anyway, please vote and comment, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for dropping by <3
