The only guarantee that can be given in complete honesty is that nothing stays the same. Perfection, in this case the thriving world of Terraria, is flawed. True perfection is not attainable, because true perfection lasts forever. However, anything that lasts forever is inherently impossible, and even if it was, perfection is a fluid thing, which is not the same for any two beings. Perfection for all is impossible, and perfection forever is a false promise.
The different worshiping civilizations slowly became frustrated with their idols. The Brimstone elemental was the one who took the brunt of the anger, as she had defended the practice of only allowing the highest ranking members of society to have access to the eternal flame, the source of her power. Anahita, the water elemental, was cast out of her society first, after she was not able to prevent a massive cyclone from ravaging their society. She no longer had the belief of her people behind her, her power faded greatly. She was forced to retreat to the ocean floor, closer to the heart of her origin, to stay alive.
Terraria had been nearly perfect for a long time, but as anything does, things were about to change. Deep in the tundra, a young human was about to discover a gift.
This young man treads through the tundra, upset at his circumstances. He had witnessed something that the mere knowledge of was grounds enough to kill him. He had seen his elemental, the Sand Elemental, causing sandstorms and chanting spells, even though she had not been worshiped recently. Everyone knew that the power of the Elementals came from worship and belief from the beings that followed them. But his tribe had recently become angry at the elemental for not preventing a devastating sandstorm from destroying the year's harvest, much like the incident that had caused Anahita to be thrown from power. What he had seen showed that, perhaps, the Elementals possessed inherent power that did not come from belief.
If it was possible that the Elementals had inherent power, was it possible for him to attain this power too? Were the Elementals really such idols? Deep in thought, he continues to stumble through the snowstorm, riddled with questions.
He can see the center of the snowstorm, and an area of calm winds beyond it. After much effort and time, he reaches the center. This was a different kind of storm than he had experienced before. It seemed to know that he had entered its center and though nothing changed, he could tell that the aura surrounding the place had been altered. An urge to sit down and meditate flowed through him, and he obeyed. As he sat in the middle of the storm, his body relaxed and grew cold as the snowy tundra around him.
Sparks flew between his fingers, as the inherent magic of the tundra distilled into his being. He harnessed this primitive ice magic and raised his hands skywards, the storm now twirling to his will. His hands swiftly moved to the ground, and in an instant the winds died, the snow falling peacefully to the ground, no longer tormented by the unrelenting winds. He had discovered how to use magic. He decided to spread this knowledge, he was going to show the world that the elementals were not the only ones who could wield magic. He was a catalyst for great change, ready to be activated.
